“Physics in Extra Dimensions of String Models for
Particle Physics”
Abstract:
Starting with the motivation of string theory as a tool to understand the physics beyond the Standard
Model, three topics of the physics in extra compact space dimensions of string models are discussed. The
first topic is the size of the compact space, and some direct signatures of the string physics at the LHC
are discussed. The second topic is the spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking with the reduction of the
rank of the gauge symmetry in the system of D-branes. A simple mechanism in case of orbifold compact
spaces is discussed. The final topic is the stabilization of the size and shape of the compact space. A
strategy is introduced, in which the magnetic fluxes on D-branes and the balance of the forces among
fractional branes are utilized.
