Misericordia.
misericordia. È un'immagine di Cristo che
porta l’ 'anima perduta' sulle sue spalle. Si
basa sulle rappresentazioni del Buon
Pastore delle prime comunita’ cristiane.
Cristo porta l'umanità fuori dalla notte
delle tenebre verso la luce divina.
GRUPPI DI RIFLESSIONE QUARESIMALE
Our Lady’s.
VIA CRUCIS
Reciteremo la Via Crucis i martedì di
Quaresima presso Our Lady’s dopo la
invitiamo a farlo oggi!
PROJECT COMPASSION: SECONDA SETTIMANA
Down, Hum Noy, non avrebbe mai potuto
raggiungere appieno il suo potenziale. Tuttavia, Hum
Noy ha ora la possibilità di imparare
e crescere in una scuola per bambini
con disabilità intellettive, supportate
da Caritas Australia.
UN SEMINARISTA PER LA PARROCCHIA
I seminaristi di Corpus Christi College,
come parte della loro formazione per il
sacerdozio, fanno un tirocinio in una
parrocchia durante il loro 4 ° anno.
Quest'anno avremo Trac Nguyen con
noi.
Rainforest Alliance o UTZ.
PASSATE PAROLA: Questa settimana parlate di questa
iniziativa con almeno 5 dei vostri amici!

The word of the Lord is faithful
and all God’s works to be trusted.
The Lord loves justice and right
and fills the earth with his love.
The Lord looks on those who revere him.
On those who hope in his love,
to rescue their souls from death,
to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul is waiting for the Lord.
The Lord is our help and our shield.
May your love be upon us, O Lord,
as we place all our hope in you.

ON THE MOUNTAINTOP
There are moments of
transcendence in our lives;
moments when we are
conscious of being drawn into
God’s mystery, even though
these moments may be fleeting.
In such moments, we can be
taken out of ourselves and our
senses can be finely tuned into
the awesome silence and beauty of nature. Like the
disciples, we want to hold on to these moments, to
prolong the experience, to ‘build tents’ and stay. The
reality of our humanity demands that we move from
such moments of transcendence back into the
dailiness of life. We cannot stay on the mountain of
light forever.
Jesus too knew such moments of transcendence and
moments when the starkness of his life was very
present. On the mountain, like Moses and Elijah, he
has an encounter with God, symbolised in the light,
the cloud, and the voice from heaven. But the reality
of his death in Jerusalem is present even in this
moment of glory, for the great prophets of Israel
speak to Jesus of his exodus, which he was to
complete in Jerusalem. Jesus’ passing over to the
Father cannot happen on this mountain in Galilee but
must happen on the hill of Golgotha. Living out the
truth of his identity as Son demands that Jesus go
down the mountain, leave behind the consoling
presence of God, and take the road to Jerusalem.

OUR THEME FOR LENT
Our theme for Lent is Mercy. This week we focus on
‘The Radiant Face of Mercy’. In Jesus we see the shining
presence of God who is Mercy. In the whole of Jesus’
life and teaching, God’s mercy is revealed. Mercy is
the radiance of God’s love that also shines through
each one of us when we show compassion and
forgiveness.
BANNER FOR THE YEAR OF MERCY
Our sanctuary banner displays the
international logo for the Year of
Mercy. It is an image of Christ
carrying the ‘lost soul’ upon his
shoulders. It is based on early
Christian images of the Good
Shepherd. Christ carries humanity
out of the night of darkness toward
the divine light.
PROJECT COMPASSION
On the church table is this year’s Project Compassion
material, with the boxes and sharepacks. If you haven’t
already taken a box, please take one today! This offers
a real way to respond to the Lenten call to almsgiving.
This annual Lenten Appeal funds the continuing work
of Caritas Australia in many parts of the world.
PROJECT COMPASSION: WEEK 2
With limited support services for
children living with intellectual
disabilities in Laos, Duangmala feared
that her 8-year-old son, Hum Noy,
would never reach his full potential
because he has Down Syndrome. However, Hum Noy
now has the chance to learn and thrive at a school for
children with intellectual disabilities, supported by
Caritas Australia.
LENTEN REFLECTION GROUPS
 There is an Italian reflection group every Tuesday
of Lent at 10.30am in St Ambrose’s Parish House.
Sr Marjetka leads this group.
 A second Italian reflection group led by Sr
Marjetka is held at 9.45am on the Thursdays of
Lent in the Community Room at Our Lady’s.
 The English-speaking group, led by Sr Diane, will
not begin until Wednesday 3 March.
REFLECTIVE LENTEN PRAYER
On the Thursday evenings of Lent, there is
an opportunity for some quiet, reflective
prayer at the Marist Brothers’ chapel from
7.45 – 8.30pm at 106 Holden Street,
North Fitzroy. This provides an
opportunity for people to sit quietly with
the Gospel for the following Sunday. There is a handout guide for reflection. All are welcome!
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
On the Tuesdays of Lent at Our Lady’s
after the 9.15 Mass, and on the Fridays of
Lent at St Ambrose’s after the 10.00 Mass
there will be the Stations of the Cross in
the church.
A SEMINARIAN FOR THE PARISH
As part of their training for priesthood, the
seminarians from Corpus Christi College do a ‘field
placement’ in a parish during their 4th year. This year
we will have Trac Nguyen with us.
For his first semester he will be with
us some Fridays, staying some
weekends and also for Holy Week.
In the second semester, beginning 25
June, he will live at St Ambrose’s
parish house and will be involved in
the daily life of the parish until after
Christmas. Most of us will have the
opportunity to meet him during Holy Week.
MEETING REMINDERS

The Parish Finance Committee meets this
Tuesday 23 February at 7.30pm in Our Lady’s
Parish House.

The Interchurch Council meets at 12.30 on
Thursday 25 February.
RCIA THIS WEEK
The candidates and sponsors for RCIA are reminded
that our next meeting will be at 6.30pm on Thursday
25 February in St Ambrose’s Community Centre.
PARISH EASTER RAFFLE
Tickets are on sale for the Parish
Easter Raffle. They are available at
Our Lady’s this weekend and next
weekend. On the following two
weekends (6 and 13 March) they will be available at St
Ambrose’s. Tickets are $2 for an envelope of 4 tickets.
The prizes are two Easter hampers.
PARISH RETREAT AFTERNOON
The parish is offering a
retreat afternoon on
Saturday 12 March from
2.00pm – 5.00pm in St
Ambrose’s Community
Centre for all of us who
need some ‘time out’ for quiet reflection before we
enter into Holy Week. There will be separate
activities for children so that parents can enjoy a
meditative and prayerful time. This will be a wonderful
opportunity to spiritually prepare for Easter. All are
welcome!
ANOTHER MACKILLOP PILGRIMAGE
For all who may be interested in going
on a 4-day MacKillop pilgrimage in the
September school holidays (this time
to Sydney—flying not walking!!) there
will be an information meeting after
the 10.30 Mass on Sunday 13 March in
St Ambrose’s Community Centre. This
pilgrimage will include visiting the
convent at Mount Street, where Mary lived, died and is
buried, places of significance in The Rocks and Mary’s
mother’s burial site, etc.
ROSTERS AVAILABLE
Did you pick up your parish roster last weekend? If
not, there are still some copies on the church table.
Thank you to all who have volunteered to actively
participate in the liturgical life of the parish through
these ministries.
LOOKING FOR ACCOMMODATION
A single, female parishioner is looking for
a small self-contained unit or bungalow.
If you know of anything that is available, please contact
the parish on 9380 1023.
SYDNEY ROAD STREET PARTY
The Sydney Road Street Party will
be on Sunday 6 March from 12
noon. We will have a craft stall on
the street and there will be
amusements in St Ambrose’s church
grounds. If you are able to spend
some time serving on the craft stall please give your
name to Bobby Hardstaff or Fr Michael after Mass
today.
CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD SLAVERY
The International Labour Rights Forum estimates that
there are 1.5 million children
working in the cocoa sector in West
Africa. To buy slavery-free Easter

ACTION: Talk with at least 5 of your
friends about slavery-free chocolate this week.
OPEN DAY AT MERCY PLACE

reference for parents regarding Catholic Secondary
education for their children. Please take a copy home
if you are interested.
HOMILY ON NOTICEBOARD
Last Tuesday there was a Mass in St Patrick’s
Cathedral regarding the plight of asylum
seekers. Bishop Long (himself a Vietnamese

which is on the noticeboard today. Please read it if you
get the chance.
