immaginario pellegrinaggio mariano
nei cinque continenti tramite il Rosario
Missionario. Martedi 24 Maggio: St Ambrose,

lo scopo di pregare per la pace nel mondo. Tutti
sono i benvenuti!
UN VOTO PER CHI NON HA VOCE
I vescovi cattolici dell'Australia hanno rilasciato
una dichiarazione a proposito delle prossime
elezioni. La hanno intitolata ‘A Vote for the
Voiceless’.
Seminary, all’angolo tra Rathdowne e
Pelham Street, Carlton.

When I see the heavens, the work of your hands,
the moon and the stars which you arranged,
what is man that you should keep him in mind,
mortal man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him little less than a god;
with glory and honour you crowned him,
gave him power over the works of your hand,
put all things under his feet.
All of them, sheep and cattle,
yes, even the savage beasts,
birds of the air, and fish
that make their way through the waters.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Alleluia, alleluia!
Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit:
to God who is, who was, and who is to come.
Alleluia!

GOD IS ONE
We do not find an explicit statement of the
doctrine of the Trinity in the Gospels; it took
centuries of discussion before the Council of
Nicea came up with the language we profess in
our creed about Father, Son, and Spirit. What
we do find is a seminal faith and an experience
of God present in the life of Jesus and the early
Christians. As a Jew Jesus would have daily
prayed the great Jewish proclamation of faith,
‘Hear O Israel the Lord our God, the Lord is
one.’ Drawing on his Jewish traditions and
Scriptures Jesus spoke to God as ‘Abba’,
father. While the Greeks had the idea of God
as a distant impersonal and immovable being,
Jesus knew God as personal and loving.
Jesus’ experience of an
intimate loving God continued
in the experience of the early
Christians who glimpsed that
while the historical Jesus of
Nazareth was no longer with
them, Jesus as the Risen
Christ was a powerful
Mystical Trinity,
presence,
still alive in their
Hildegard of Bingen
midst, and they experienced
this as a powerful Spirit of love, courage,
gratitude and peace, even in the midst of
hostility and suffering. They knew with the
certainty of experience God as Father, as Son
and Spirit. –Mary Coloe PBVM
OUR LADY’S FEASTDAY
The Feast of Our Lady Help of
Christians is celebrated on 24
May each year. Our Lady Help of
Christians is Patroness of
Australia. We will celebrate this
special feastday at the 9.15am
Mass on Tuesday morning with
the students from Our Lady’s school in
attendance. All are welcome!
IT’S ON THIS WEEK!!
COME ALONG THIS WEEK – Wednesday 25
May, 7.30 – 9.00pm, for our special event,
‘The Wisdom of Our Parish Scholars’. Take the
opportunity to listen to the wisdom of three of
our parishioners who are working on their
doctorates in the areas of Church or
Spirituality:
Bryan Cussen is researching
Pope Paul III and Church Reform
in the Sixteenth Century. Paul III
was Pope from 1534 – 1549 at a
time of great uncertainty in the
Catholic Church following the
Protestant Reformation. During his pontificate,
and in the spirit of the Counter-Reformation,
new Catholic religious orders and societies,
such as the Jesuits attracted a popular
following. He convened the Council of Trent in
1545.
Christopher Morris is
researching Fr Bruno Barnhart
and ‘Wisdom’ Christianity. Fr
Bruno has written a number of
books including ’The Future of
Wisdom’. He advocates a
wholehearted rediscovery and reinvigoration
of the mystical wisdom tradition that was once
a powerful component of Christian spirituality,
both Western and Eastern.
Sr Marjetka Zlahtic is
researching the New
Evangelisation – how to
announce Christ in our deeply
secularised world. ‘While on the
one hand people seem to be
pursuing material prosperity and to be sinking
ever deeper into consumerism and
materialism, on the other hand we are
witnessing a desperate search for meaning, the
need for an inner life, and a desire to learn
new forms and methods of meditation and
prayer.’ JPII
Bryan, Chris and Marjetka will each give a 20
minute presentation and there will be time for
discussion and questions. The evening will
conclude with supper. All are welcome!
FINAL DINNER
The last of the ‘Meals
in Small Groups’ is on
the Saturday evening
of this weekend at the
home of Di and Henry
Travers. A special
thanks to all who have
hosted a meal this time around!
LITURGY ROSTERS
If you didn’t pick up your roster last week, the
new liturgy planning rosters are available on
the church table for all those who are on the
planning teams.
MEETING REMINDER
Liturgy Planning Team 1 meets
this Thursday evening at 6.30pm in St
Ambrose’s parish house.
THE MISSION ROSARY
Sr Marjetka will lead the Mission Rosary in
Italian at St Ambrose’s on Tuesday 24 May,
10.30 – 11.15 and at Our Lady’s on Thursday
26 May 9.45 – 10.30. All welcome!
A VOTE FOR THE VOICELESS
The Catholic Bishops of Australia
have released a statement, on the
forthcoming election. They have
called it ‘A Vote for the Voiceless’.
In it they ask us to focus not so
much on the economy but on what
Pope Francis calls our ‘throwaway culture’ – “a
culture of over-consumption where all kinds of
things are thrown away, wasted, even human
beings. The voices of the thrown-away people will
not be heard in the long and rowdy campaign.”
There are some copies of the statement on the
church table. Please take a copy home and
reflect on it in your own time.
THE FINAL PARISH MASS COUNT
The final attendance count at the parish Masses
will take place this weekend. The entire
Australian Church has been conducting this
count over the past four weekends for the
Pastoral Research Office of the Australian
Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
On Sunday afternoon
29 May, the
Seminary will be
celebrating the Feast
of Corpus Christi
with a Mass and
Eucharistic
procession, 3.00pm at the Seminary Church of
the Sacred Heart, corner of Rathdowne and
Pelham Streets, Carlton.
ITALIAN FESTA TODAY
Today at 3.00pm in St Ambrose’s
church there will be the Festa of the
Madonna of Servigliano celebrated by
Fr Pawel Pakula CSSR. All are welcome!
(PS The statue of the Madonna of
Servigliano was the one that was damaged
recently – see the newspaper cutting from The
Moreland Leader on the church noticeboard)
JUBILEE CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to Sr Carmel Pascoe RSM, from
Mercy Place in Parkville, who celebrates 70
years of Religious Profession as a Sister of
Mercy. Sr Carmel sits in the front seat on the
right-hand-side at the 10.30am Mass (near the
wall). If you see her, wish her all the best!
ARM KNITTING
Yes, you read that correctly! Arm
knitting is a new craze whereby you
can knit an ‘infinity’ scarf in 30
minutes. We’re going to try it at
our next parish craft group on 3 June. Keep the
morning free!! Details next week.

This Friday evening there will be a
dance at Our Lady’s Hall. This is an
event that takes place on the last
Friday of each month in Our Lady’s
Hall. Come along next Friday 27
May at 8.00pm. There will a variety of music.
