Malta and the Dolomites ‘meet’
T
he Accademia della
Cucina Italiana continues in its endeavours to bring Italian
culture, including
that of food and drink, to
Malta. One of its most recent
activities was at the Istituto
Italiano della Cultura where
members of the Accademia
from the Trentino-Alto Adige
region presented Dolasila a
multi-media production of the
‘ladina’
traditions.
This
evening of music, legend, art
and gastronomy was open to
the public. H.E. The Italian
ambassador to Malta as well
as the Minister of Culture and
Justice, Dr Owen Bonnici,
were present for this interesting evening.
Dolasila is the name of the
warring princess and principal
female legendary figure of the
region. Dott. Roland Verra,
writer, poet and above all an
expert of the region introduced the audience to the legends and other important
aspects of this beautiful part of
Italy. The soprano Susy Rottonara, who is also a pianist
and composer sang about
Princess Dolasila while in the
background
photographs,
lyrics of the songs and musical
poems were projected.
Marina Crazzolara and her
husband Luca, representing
hoteliers of the Alto Adige
spoke about the ties between
land, food and lifestyle. They
produce cheeses from milk
from their own farm, one
cheese is called, what else, if
not Dolasila.
The evening ended with an
elegant buffet so generously
offered by the hosts when
those present were able to
taste cheeses, salami, bread
and wines from the region.
Truly an evening of culture in
all its aspects.
On another evening there
was a superb meal at the San
Juliano restaurant in St Julian’s which was ‘assessed’ by
members of the Accademia.
