Accommodation
General orientation (see map at the end of this file)
The conference site (in the J. Plateaustraat) is situated between the railway station “Gent Sint-Pieters”
and the historical centre. There are some hotels near this railway station. Distance from these hotels to
the conference site is about 1.3 km, taking about 20 minutes walking. There is also a direct tram (no. 1)
from there to the corner of J. Plateaustraat.
The Guest House of Ghent University (student Homes) are at the south of the conference site; walking
distance is 950 m, taking 12 minutes.
Most of the hotels are in or near the historical centre. The closest (450 m) is “Ibis Gent Centrum Opera”,
the others are about 1 km / 1.5 km (12 min. / 20 min. walking) from the conference site. “Aparthotel
Calstelnou” (which has apartments) is east from the conference site.
Guest House of Ghent University
A limited number of rooms is available in the new Guest House Complex (Homes) of Ghent University, on
the site “Kantienberg”. It consists of four homes, named Groningen, Uppsala, Göttingen and Canterbury.
In these homes, single rooms are available at economic prices (250 € per week: 13-20 July). For this, you
get a furnished room: wardrobe, single bed (mattress, pillow and linen provided, but no towels), desk
and two chairs, private bathroom (with shower, wash basin and toilet), and refrigerator in the room. The
rooms are new, clean and offer basic comfort. There is a student restaurant attached to the homes,
where you can have breakfast or other meals.
Reservation of these rooms is through the organizers. Indicate on your registration form whether you
wish to have such a room. In such a case, the amount of 250 € is added to the participation fee. The
rooms are assigned to those who register first. After your registration, you will receive an e-mail from
GROUP30 to confirm whether a room is still available.
The Homes are located at Stalhof 45, but the entrance key and badge should be taken from the office
just opposite the road (Office in Home Vermeylen, Stalhof 6: open daily 8.00h-12.00h and 13.00h-22.00h
and during weekends 10.00h-22.00h).
Hotels
All other form of accommodation should be arranged by the participants themselves. Some hotels in
Ghent offer a reduction to participants of the GROUP30 conference. Because of the Ghent Festival, in the
week after the conference, make sure to make your hotel booking as early as possible.
The following is a list of hotels that offer a reduction. The prices shown are for standard rooms (single
occupancy) with breakfast (unless otherwise mentioned). Contact the hotel directly, mentioning
“UGENT-GROUP30” as reference for your reduction.
For participants accompanied by family members, it may be interesting to book an apartment in
“Aparthotel Castelnou”.
