Removal of Default MRM Policy for ‘Deleted Items’ folder
We have removed the default MRM policy which deletes items from ‘Deleted Items’ folder after 30 days of their arrival in that folder. If
customers have modified that policy, we will not remove it. If anyone intends to keep that default policy, they can rename it. Blog post on
the Office Blog site.

What are the issues?
What are we doing?
Outlook profile misconfigured/corrupt (new

Make profiles more reliable, have one truth from
Autodiscover in Outlook (Coming in Outlook16)
Troubleshooting Outlook Connectivity issues is
not easy, logical & streamlined
SaRA Beta Release announced at Ignite!
Published Outlook Connectivity Guided Walkthroughs for
Exchange On-Premises & Office 365
Outlook version is not latest, needs updates
Outlook should warn on launch if an update is required
(OL2013: SP1 and later, enabled in O365/EXO)
Outlook Data Collection in Office 365 (OL2013)
Enables passive monitoring supplementing existing server
side monitoring, adds enhanced capability to detect
protocol related outages (KB:2891160)
Support for the new MAPI/HTTP Protocol in
Outlook for Exchange Connectivity
Faster connection times, better performance, etc. All of

What are the issues?
What are we doing?
Mailbox permissions scenarios
(includes Shared Mailbox)
Various improvements to Shared Mailbox usability and
provisioning. Simple user <-> shared mailbox conversion
shipped to O365.
How to: create / configure email alias
New SMTP address workflows were shipped. Evaluating
requirements for client / server work needed to properly
support this scenario.
How to: recover deleted items
Complicated scenario; touches our retention policies and
email recovery discoverability. Default deleted item folder
retention policies in O365 have been removed now!
Import email to O365 scenarios
We are re-thinking how the experience of users (mostly
small customers) populating their mailboxes with email can
be improved.
There is a fair number of confused O365
customers: when to use EAC vs. MOP?
We are unifying our management story more and more.
Expect this to continue.

What are the issues?
What are we doing?
Corrupt Items
We have moved the corrupt item limits from zero tolerance to
allowing for 10 items to be skipped. This allows for a 90% drop
in issues
Over Sized items
Currently the documented limit is 25MB per message, we have
increased the message size limit to 150MB for Hybrid moves.
We have also increased the transport limit recently
Onboarding process
The onboarding process is one that is currently disjointed and
hard to follow. We are working on improving this story by
bringing the onboarding and migration process together
Complicated deployments
We have an offering to help customers onboard with some
guided help from Microsoft, this in known and the On-Boarding

What are the issues?
What are we doing?
Hybrid Stability
We are spending a lot of time and resources to ensure that
Hybrid is stable. We had a bad stretch but improved in a lot of
areas as a result
OAUTH
We are starting to use OAUTH for many scenarios. We are
working to make this more stable
Hybrid CAN be a transition state
We have limited ability and guidance for getting customers
out of a hybrid configuration, we are making this a priority for
engineering a
Inline Improvements
We are making a big investment to ensure that we collect the
data we need to solve a customer problem before they
experience any issues
Empowering our customers
We are building a series of troubleshooter that will empower
our customers to solve there own issues, the first is
http://aka.ms/HCWCheck but there are many more coming15
What are the issues?
Outlook 2013 IMAP missing email and
slow sync
What are we doing?
Substantial fixes that address most of the IMAP issues are
included in SP 1. Emerging issues are being fixed as they are
reported via support and forum threads.
Outlook client and Outlook.com server side fixes have been
implemented for SP 1 + PUs. Now focusing on smaller work
items:
Outlook.com via EAS in Outlook 2013
contacts not syncing and mail not
appearing on devices
Business Contact Manager Form controls
display incorrect labels
-
Meetings not syncing with Outlook.com (under investigation May 2015)
Digital certificate is not added using Add to Outlook Contacts (Dec PU)
When moving mail to another folder the (To/CC) recipients are duplicated
(Nov PU)
Sending BCC only email sender also gets a copy (Nov PU)
Calendar item's reminder not synced via EAS if set to "None“ (Sept CU)
Contact Notes field text appears as HTML Hotmail (client fix completed SP
1, server side fix TBD)
Original downloads have been replaced with fixed builds.
Download the builds from here, http://www.microsoft.com/en16
us/download/details.aspx?id=36513.
We heard your
feedback
“Outlook is too
bright!” and for
O16 we are
adding new
Dark Themes
17
What are the issues?
What are we doing?
OWA limitations: no calendar or contact
folders in OWA (only mail)
Calendar and Contact folders can now be seen in OWA if
they are added to Favorites in Outlook.
Team is still working on improvements here.
Capacity (folder limit)
New EXO limit: 100,000 folders
New On-prem limits: CU8+: 1,000,000
Migration is pretty slow and therefore,
unreliable
Work to increase speed of PF migration shipped in CU8 and
CU9. This is the ‘Batch migration’ approach. The approach
has been successful so we will deprecate the ‘Serial
migration’ option.

What are the issues?
What are we doing?
Customers need to find out what happened
to their email
Make Message Trace and Reports best-in-class for both users
and administrators (rolling incremental updates)
Encryption technologies should be best in
class
• Message Encryption (OME) top feature requests
• TLS 1.2 (Nov-Apr)
• Allow TLS connections from blocked IPs (Jan/Feb)
Inbound/Outbound Connectors difficult to
configure
New connector wizard with configuration validation (Apr)
Troubleshooting is difficult
• Improving NDRs (incremental updates Apr 2014-Fall 2015)
• Building inline automated troubleshooter (Jul 2014-)
Transport limits are a bit low for some
customers
• Transport rules given to all SKUs and increased limit to 300
(Nov)
• Message size for (EXO hybrid) increased to 75MB (Dec)
• Office 365 mailbox configurable limit announced (Apr) 19
What are the issues?
What are we doing?
DirSync of mail enabled public folders for EOP
tenants
DirSync will have capability to sync mail enabled PFs, allows
for Directory Based Edge Blocking. ETA end of the calendar
year.
Virus in the mailbox
Updated processes to make this smoother for customers.
Also, Advanced Threat Protection coming later in the
Spam in the mailbox
Lots of work going on with recent enhancements to bulk
mail identification. More to come.
How to recover deleted items
Complicated scenario; touches our retention policies and
email recovery discoverability. Removing default deleted
item folder retention policies in O365.
eDiscovery Searches
Performance enhancements are underway. Looking at
adding ability to do 100K mailbox searches
