Why Green Jobs for Women?
Many green jobs offer better
wages and benefits. (99% of
carpenters are men…wages average
$18.72/hr.; 98% of preschool teachers are
women…wages average $11.48/hr.—or
the teacher would have to work 25 more
hours/week to match the carpenter’s
income.)
Why Green Jobs for Women?
Women can start with any
skill level. (Women with a high
school education to those with
advanced degrees. . .or with diverse
aptitudes ranging from mathematics
to mechanics to management can
find a niche in the green economy. )
For instance – One Study of
Green Employers in Berkeley, CA. . .
found that 86% of the green
business owners interviewed
hired workers who had no
previous direct experience and
94% offered on-the-job training
to entry-level employees.
Why Green Jobs for Women?
Green jobs often offer career paths
so that women can grow
professionally.
Not every job has a
career ladder, but each
job can be a stepping
stone to improve skills
and move toward a
greater career goal.
Why Green Jobs for Women?
Green jobs appeal to workers with a
diversity of skills and interests. (i.e., home
insulators do hands-on work, while recycling coordinators
supervise operations and set collection schedules.)
Green jobs can
be indoors or outdoors.
Women need to understand all of the
opportunities available to them!
Why Green Jobs for Women?
Job satisfaction is a key
ingredient for success in
other areas of life.
Women in green jobs have
the satisfaction of knowing
that they are contributing
to a healthier environment
now and for future
generations
