But Moses Said to God…
Lessons in Prayer
The Lord would speak to Moses
face to face, as one speaks to a
friend.
Exodus 33:11 (NIV)
Desert Wilderness
Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro
his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he
led the flock to the far side of the wilderness
and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
There the angel of the Lord appeared to him
in flames of fire from within a bush.
Exodus 3:1-6 (NIV)
Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it
did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go
over and see this strange sight—why the bush
does not burn up.” When the Lord saw that he
had gone over to look, God called to him from
within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses
said, “Here I am.”
Exodus 3:1-6 (NIV)
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take
off your sandals, for the place where you are
standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am
the God of your father, the God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At
this, Moses hid his face, because he was
afraid to look at God.
Exodus 3:1-6 (NIV)
Moses: Lessons in Prayer
• He Paid Attention
Moses said, “Pardon your
servant, Lord. Please send
someone else.”
Exodus 4:13 (NIV)
"Tell me what you think of this story: A man
had two sons. He went up to the first and
said, 'Son, go out for the day and work in the
vineyard.' "The son answered, 'I don't want
to.' Later on he thought better of it and went.
Matthew 21:28-31 (MSG)
"The father gave the same command to the
second son. He answered, 'Sure, glad to.' But
he never went. "Which of the two sons did
what the father asked?" They said, "The
first."
Matthew 21:28-31 (MSG)
Simon (Peter) answered, “Master,
we’ve worked hard all night and
haven’t caught anything. But
because you say so, I will let down
the nets.”
Luke 5:5 (NIV)

The rabble with them began to crave other
food, and again the Israelites started
wailing and said, “If only we had meat to
eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt
at no cost — also the cucumbers, melons,
leeks, onions and garlic.
Numbers 11:4-6 (NIV)
But now we have lost our appetite; we
never see anything but this manna!”
Numbers 11:4-6 (NIV)
He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought
this trouble on your servant? What have I
done to displease you that you put the
burden of all these people on me? Did I
conceive all these people? Did I give them
birth?
Numbers 11:11-15 (NIV)
Why do you tell me to carry them in my
arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the
land you promised on oath to their
ancestors? Where can I get meat for all
these people? They keep wailing to me,
‘Give us meat to eat!’
Numbers 11:11-15 (NIV)
I cannot carry all these people by myself;
the burden is too heavy for me. If this is
how you are going to treat me, please go
ahead and kill me — if I have found favor
in your eyes — and do not let me face my
own ruin.”
Numbers 11:11-15 (NIV)
Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only
to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and
children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it
be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And
they said to each other, “We should choose a
leader and go back to Egypt.”
Numbers 14:3-4 (NIV)
The whole assembly talked about
stoning them.
Numbers 14:10 (NIV)
“In accordance with your great love,
forgive the sin of these people, just
as you have pardoned them from the
time they left Egypt until now.”
Numbers 14:19 (NIV)

He Listened & Grew
God, your God, is above all a
compassionate God. In the end he will
not abandon you, he won't bring you to
ruin, he won't forget the covenant with
your ancestors which he swore to them.
Deuteronomy 4:31 (MSG)
Know this well, then. Take it to heart right now:
God is in Heaven above; God is on Earth below.
He's the only God there is. Obediently live by his
rules and commands which I'm giving you today so
that you'll live well and your children after you —
oh, you'll live a long time in the land that God,
your God, is giving you.
Deuteronomy 4:39-40 (MSG)
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God,
the Lord is one. Love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all
your soul and with all your strength.
