The Hope of Jesus’
Second Coming
Son of Man
“Then they will see ‘the Son of Man
coming in clouds’ with great power
and glory. Then he will send out the
angels, and gather his elect from the
four winds, from the ends of the
earth to the ends of heaven.”
Mark 13:26-27 (NRSV)
In my vision at night I looked, and
there before me was one like a son
of man, coming with the clouds of
heaven. He approached the Ancient
of Days and was led into his
presence.
Daniel 7:13 (NIV)
“Then they will see ‘the Son of Man
coming in clouds’ with great power
and glory. Then he will send out the
angels, and gather his elect from the
four winds, from the ends of the
earth to the ends of heaven.”
Mark 13:26-27 (NRSV)
Jesus’ Second Coming
When he had said this, as they were
watching, he was lifted up, and a
cloud took him out of their sight.
While he was going and they were
gazing up toward heaven, suddenly
two men in white robes stood by
them.
Acts 1:9-11 (NRSV)
They said, “Men of Galilee, why do
you stand looking up toward
heaven? This Jesus, who has been
taken up from you into heaven, will
come in the same way as you saw
him go into heaven.”
Acts 1:9-11 (NRSV)
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will
not all sleep, but we will all be
changed—in a flash, in the twinkling
of an eye, at the last trumpet. For
the trumpet will sound, the dead will
be raised imperishable,
1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NIV)
and we will be changed. For the
perishable must clothe itself with the
imperishable, and the mortal with
immortality.
1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NIV)
Then Moses led the people out of
the camp to meet with God, and
they stood at the foot of the
mountain. Mount Sinai was covered
with smoke, because the Lord
descended on it in fire.
Exodus 19:17-20 (NIV)
The smoke billowed up from it like
smoke from a furnace, and the
whole mountain trembled violently.
As the sound of the trumpet grew
louder and louder, Moses spoke and
the voice of God answered him.
Exodus 19:17-20 (NIV)
The Lord descended to the top of
Mount Sinai and called Moses to the
top of the mountain.
Exodus 19:17-20 (NIV)
For the Lord himself will come down
from heaven, with a loud command,
with the voice of the archangel and
with the trumpet call of God, and the
dead in Christ will rise first.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
After that, we who are still alive and
are left will be caught up together
with them in the clouds to meet the
Lord in the air. And so we will be
with the Lord forever.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
When He Comes
But our citizenship is in heaven,
and it is from there that we are
expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus
Christ. He will transform the body
of our humiliation that it may be
conformed to the body of his glory,
Philippians 3:20-21 (NRSV)
by the power that also enables him
to make all things subject to himself.
Philippians 3:20-21 (NRSV)
Judgment
Say among the nations, “The Lord
reigns.” The world is firmly
established, it cannot be moved; he
will judge the peoples with equity.
Psalms 96:10 (NIV)
This will take place on the day when
God judges people’s secrets
through Jesus Christ, as my gospel
declares.
Romans 2:16 (NIV)
“For he has set a day when he will
judge the world with justice by the
man he has appointed. He has
given proof of this to everyone by
raising him from the dead.”
Acts 7:31 (NIV)
Dear friends, now we are children of
God, and what we will be has not
yet been made known. But we know
that when Christ appears, we shall
be like him, for we shall see him as
he is.
