Dimensional Analysis is a
method used to convert between
units of measurement.
It is useful to convert between
the Metric System and the
English System.
4 Step
Method
Be sure to write your
units for everything!!
Step 1: Write down the
number and the unit that
you are starting with.
Put it over 1. (anything
over 1 is equal to itself)
Step 2: Determine
what unit you
want your answer
to be in.
Step 3: Find out how
to arrive at your final
unit by using known
conversion factors
that equal to 1.
Step 4: Set up
your conversion
factor so that
the units cancel.
The units on the top of
one fraction always
goes as the units on the
bottom of the next
fraction so they can
cancel each other out.
