The SHRM Foundation advances global human
capital knowledge and practice by providing
thought leadership and educational support;
and sponsoring, funding and driving the
adoption of cutting - edge, actionable,
evidence-based research.

Scholarship Programs
We are shaping the future of HR by investing more
than $175,000 annually in education and
certification scholarships.
• $122,500 annually to support SHRM members
pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree or
professional certification
– 130 awards: 20 education ($2,000 each) and 110
certification ($750 each)
– 30 additional certification awards were added for 2014!
– Online applications are due July 15
• $55,000 annually for SHRM student members for
education or professional certification
– Online applications are due November 1

Fundraising 101
• Cultivation: educate your members about the role of
the SHRM Foundation in supporting the HR
profession and the resources it provides to do so
• Solicitation: lead by example, launch a leadership
campaign & hold a fundraising event
• Stewardship: thank and recognize your donors
Fundraising Checklist
 Designate a SHRM Foundation Director as a leadership position
on your Board of Directors
 Set a fundraising goal for your Chapter or State Council
 Make a monetary contribution from the Chapter or State Council
funds
 Conduct a Leadership Campaign with your board members
 Encourage personal giving from individual members
 Plan a special fundraiser or event
 Make it easy to donate by providing brochures and donation
forms
 Participate in quarterly CLA conference calls to receive updates,
learn from your peers and hear fundraising ideas

Who should checks be made payable to?
– “SHRM Foundation”
– Include your Chapter or Council’s full name (no abbreviations), mailing address & Chapter
number for Chapter donations

Do you accept credit cards?
– Yes. Visa, MasterCard & American Express
– Please include a completed SHRM contribution form with all credit card donations
•
Do you accept online donations?
– Yes, at http://www.shrmfoundation.org. If using a personal credit card on behalf of a
Chapter or State Council, please communicate this clearly in the “Additional Explanation”
field
Ensuring the Donation is
Credited Properly
SHRM Foundation must abide by Government and
IRS regulations
• Acknowledgement Letters:
– Sent via snail mail to whomever made the
donation—generally, the printed name on the check
– This individual receives the acknowledgement letter
and appears in reports throughout the campaign
year
– For donations made directly from Chapter or Council
funds, these letters will be sent to the Chapter
Presidents and State Council Directors.

Multiple Individual Gifts Above $25
• If you are sending several donations together,
make sure that there is a separate contribution
form for EACH donation being sent (this applies
to checks and credit cards)
• The individuals will receive the
acknowledgement letter and recognition.

• Smaller donations should be made payable to your
Chapter or State Council and deposited to your
account, after which one check should be written
from your Chapter or State Council bank account.
Please do not send cash to the Foundation
• The Chapter or State Council will receive the
acknowledgement letter and recognition for this
contribution, not the individuals.
