Who are we? • We are the student chapter of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP), and the Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GCSHP) • We are 140+ UHCOP students in a 30,000+ national professional pharmacy organization ASHP: American National Society of Health-System Pharmacists State Regional College TSHP: Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists GCSHP: Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists SSHP: Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists What do we represent? Hospital or health-system pharmacy. This encompasses many areas outside the traditional (retail) pharmacy environment including: • Clinical specialists – Ex: Transplant, Infectious disease, Pediatrics, Oncology, etc. • Inpatient and outpatient care practitioners – Ex: Pharmacists in ambulatory & chronic care settings such as diabetes, HIV, and lipid clinics • Directors of Pharmacy, Hospital Administration • Home infusion • Academia What can we offer you? • Advance your knowledge of health-system pharmacy • Advance your clinical skills to become a proficient clinician • Advance your professionalism through networking and seminars • Advance your leadership skills to move forward the profession of pharmacy Advancing Knowledge… • Through our meetings with speakers from different areas of health-system pharmacy – Clinical specialists in cardiology, oncology, infectious disease, critical care, etc. – Pharmacy management and industry • Through Journal Club on TMC Campus – Opportunity to evaluate and present literature to peers • Through Resident’s Meetings on TMC Campus – Opportunity to discuss residency programs with 1-3 TMC Residents Advancing Clinical Skills… • Through Clinical Skills Competitions – Teams work in pairs to evaluate a patient case & recommend appropriate medication therapy – Compete at campus and state level.
