THE TEMPTATION TO SIN
Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the
man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you
may freely eat; 17 "but of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for
in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any
beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he
said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not
eat of every tree of the garden'?" 2 And the woman said
to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the
garden; 3 "but of the fruit of the tree which is in the
midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it,
nor shall you touch it, lest you die.' " 4 Then the serpent
said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5 "For God
knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be
opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for
food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable
to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also
gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in
the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of
the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the
world -- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life -- is not of the Father but is
of the world.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of
the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken
you except such as is common to man; but God is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
beyond what you are able, but with the
temptation will also make the way of escape, that
you may be able to bear it.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the
light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess
our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we
say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and
His word is not in us. 2:1 My little children, these
things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if
anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father,
Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the
propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but
also for the whole world.
1 Corinthians 11:1 Imitate me, just as I also
imitate Christ.
1 Peter 2:21 For to this you were called, because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that you should follow His steps: 22 "Who
committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His
mouth"; 23 who, when He was reviled, did not
revile in return; when He suffered, He did not
threaten, but committed Himself to Him who
judges righteously; 24 who Himself bore our sins
in His own body on the tree, that we, having died
to sins, might live for righteousness -- by whose
stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like
sheep going astray, but have now returned to the
Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a
little lower than the angels, for the suffering of
death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by
the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.
10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all
things and by whom are all things, in bringing
many sons to glory, to make the captain of their
salvation perfect through sufferings.
Hebrews 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have
partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise
shared in the same, that through death He might
destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the
devil, 15 and release those who through fear of
death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16
For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He
does give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore,
in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that
He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in
things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the
sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has
suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who
are tempted.
Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great
High Priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our
confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest
who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but
was in all points tempted as we are, yet without
sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne
of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.
Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into
the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And
when He had fasted forty days and forty nights,
afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter
came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God,
command that these stones become bread." 4 But He
answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from
the mouth of God.' " 5 Then the devil took Him up
into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the
temple, 6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of
God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall
give His angels charge over you,' and, 'In their hands
they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot
against a stone.' "
7 Jesus said to him, "It is written again, 'You shall
not tempt the LORD your God.' " 8 Again, the
devil took Him up on an exceedingly high
mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of
the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him,
"All these things I will give You if You will fall
down and worship me." 10 Then Jesus said to
him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You
shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only
you shall serve.' " 11 Then the devil left Him, and
behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
1 Peter 1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, though
now for a little while, if need be, you have been
grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness
of your faith, being much more precious than gold
that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be
found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation
of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you
love. Though now you do not see Him, yet
believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and
full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith -the salvation of your souls.
Psalm 51:1 A Psalm of David when Nathan the
prophet went to him, after he had gone in to
Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness; According to
the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my
transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my
iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I
acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is
always before me. 4 Against You, You only, have
I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight -- That
You may be found just when You speak, And
blameless when You judge.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in
sin my mother conceived me. 6 Behold, You
desire truth in the inward parts, And in the
hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. 7
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash
me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me
hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have
broken may rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my
sins, And blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in
me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast
spirit within me.
