  SAE-Based Programs   New online form for 2014 Finalizing new online form for American FFA Degree Certification and proficiency state check requests  Look for updated information from Rosalie Hunsinger Agriscience Fair  State staff signature now required on application  Electricity in declaration with justification  Electricity will not be provided for lighting of display  Template resource now available to aid in development of research report, located on program website  Online Certification Due  New this year: Teacher must enter grade level as determined by the grade the student was in at the time of qualifying at the state level

 National Chapter  Timeline:  State staff: request state certificates/plaques/spurs 4 weeks in advance of date needed via Form A and Form B located on program webpage and state staff dashboard  Certification Forms Due  New this year: teachers must select if they are a middle school or high school chapter

  Scholarships   Feb. 8 is postmark deadline for scholarship Signature Pages Advisors must submit their online approval and students must print and mail Signature Pages by that date   Here’s how: Advisors – log on to AgCN, select “National Scholarships” from the menu list and click the “HERE” link to begin the Advisor Approval Process Students – log on to AgCN, select “National Scholarships” from the menu list and follow the links back into the application to print the Signature Page

“Give the Gift of Blue” FFA Jacket Campaign

   Information is at: www.FFA.org/giveblue .

Intended for members who could not otherwise afford a jacket.

  To approve applications, advisors log on to AgCN and click on “Give the Gift of Blue” logo.

 Automated e-mails will be sent to members and advisors at each step of the process.

 Advisors control which members apply by approving applications, so ensure they understand the program. Limited funds mean jackets must go to members with real need.

To apply, members log on to AgCN and click “Give the Gift of Blue” logo.

Depending on funding, a jacket order will be placed each Monday morning with an e-mail sent to the recipient confirming the order and personalization on the jacket.

 In the past four months, $20,000 has been donated to the fund.

 RAM Trucks has committed a minimum of $25,000 for this year.

 The Foundation received a $500,000 commitment from an individual donor to endow the program, ensuring $25,000 per year for jackets.

  By Jan. 31, nearly 100 jackets were ordered.

50 jacket applications are awaiting advisor approval.

 Funds are available for an additional 175 jackets.

The annual meeting will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 20-23, 2014. There are three regions, North Central, Southern and Western, each with their own annual meetings. National and regional meetings feature presentations outlining current research findings and other professional development activities regarding agricultural education. • Established Teacher Education Standards Committee – Committee met at NAAE in Las Vegas, will meet again on May 19-20 in Snowbird, UT.

• Conducting a national study of teacher preparation programs to validate core competencies for program completers. • Will develop Standards for program completers from these competencies.

• • AAAE Members presented twelve posters at the NAAE Meeting on Dec 6, 2013 at the NAAE / AAAE Research to Practice Poster session. The feedback from this initiative was very positive, and we are soliciting our Regional and National winners to submit their posters for the 2014 NAAE Conference.

MANRRS Update

Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences

       A total of 574 students and professionals participated at this year’s cluster meetings.  The cluster meetings attracted companies from government, industry and academia, and it was a great success.  The core workshops presented focused on interviewing tips, social media strategies, personal branding techniques, and the value of traveling abroad.  More than 20 companies were represented throughout the cluster meetings Region IV, Hosted by Kansas State University – September 20-22 – Attendance ~ 95 Marriott Century Center, Atlanta, GA Cluster – September 28-29 – Attendance ~ 190 Austin, Texas Cluster, Hosted by Farm Credit Bank of Texas – October 12-13 – Attendance ~ 65 Region VI, Hosted at UNLV in Las Vegas, NV – October 18-19 – Attendance ~55 Region V, Hosted at University of Wisconsin-Madison – November 1-2 – Attendance ~ 107 Region I, Hosted at Virginia Tech – November 8-10 - Attendance ~ 62

The National Association of Supervisors Agricultural Education (NASAE) is a professional organization established to provide members with information essential for planning and conducting quality agricultural education programs.

 The NASAE held a successful annual meeting on October 28-30, 2013, in conjunction with the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.  Award recipients for 2013 were:  

      Since the Annual Meeting, the Executive Committee has met by monthly conference calls.
