Supplementary material 4: Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) enrichment score curve for the proteasome pathway The green curve corresponds to the enrichment score (ES) curve, which is the running sum of the weighted enrichment score obtained from GSEA software. Individual genes are represented by vertical lines. Genes on the far left (red) were associated with a high risk to develop oral cancer (hazard ratio > 1), and genes on the far right (blue) were associated with a low risk to develop oral cancer. The proteasome pathway was enriched because most of the genes included in this pathway (represented as vertical lines) were associated with a high hazard ratio. The graph on the bottom represents the ordered, non-redundant list of the ~20,000 genes analyzed in the platform, and ranked according to their corresponding hazard ratio. Gene set Proteasome pathway Enrichment Score (ES) 0.6893 Normalized Enrichment Score 1.9870 Nominal p-value 0.0018 False discovery rate 0.0120
