2014/2015 – Pilot Programs
2015 – 2461 Special Provisions
Metro Plant Inspection Issues
• Have your orders in by 3:00 PM the day before pouring. If you forget to
call in please leave a detailed message so we can get the order in by
6:00 am the following morning or email.
• Make sure you have the correct mix design number (Especially the new
ASTM mixes) before calling.
• If you know the pour has been canceled, change time or plant please
notify us with the change.
• If you are paving less than 150 tons of bituminous please don’t call in.
We will not take any orders less than 150 tons.
• If you send multiple orders in excel document, please let us know if
there is more than just one order in the documents. We may miss the
tabs on the bottom of the spread sheet.
Specification Update
• Published annually, beginning 2016
• New 2015 Special Provisions will start being put in
Letting on February 27 th of this year-(Be sure to check
your contract documents)
• Back to one book
• New Schedule of Materials Control with each spec
book
• Contractor mix designs will be required in 2016 spec
book

Concrete Mix Design Requirements
Slump Requirements
The slump maximum is now showing on the chart. You
will no longer will be allowed to add 1 inch to the slump
if water reducer is added like under the old
specifications of 2014. Max slump is what has been
identified on the new mix design chart.

Why Contractor Mix Designs
• New & Improved material Technology
• Allow increased use of supplementary cementitious
materials
• Allows more flexible use of admixtures
• Producers know and understand there material better
than Mn/DOT
• Make the market more competitive ( reducing costs)

Other Topics
• No longer will provisional technicians be allowed to
sign the 1st certificate of compliance ticket any more
in 2015. They were never supposed to be allowed to
do this in the past. Enforcing rule this next year.
• Under the new 2015 special provision/pilot projects,
cylinders cast in the field will be used as acceptance
testing. So they will have to be handled more
carefully. Contractor to provide cure/storage on-site.
Casting minimum of 3-28 day test cylinders per set.
Pilot project has a 4 th cylinder for a 7 day test age.
