MULTIMEDIA 4.2.1 Hardware 11/7/2015 1 MM Hardware 11/7/2015 Last lesson – about hardware need in multimedia 2 MM Hardware Each hardware has its own functions. 1) Scanners are used to convert conventional images, texts, drawings and photos into digital form that can be understood by the computer. 2) Video cameras: analog video camera and digital video camera (DV). An analog video camera records video in analog signals on a magnetic video tape. A digital video camera records video in digital signals, which can be stored in various forms of media, such as digital video tape or memory cards. 11/7/2015 3 Norhasimah Mohamed, MIT MM Hardware Each hardware has its own functions. 3) Camera An ordinary camera, images are captured on a roll of film. In a digital camera, images are captured and stored in a media card. 4) Audio devices - are needed to record analog sound. The sounds are then changed into digital sound. 11/7/2015 4 Norhasimah Mohamed, MIT MM Hardware 5) Video capture devices help to convert analog video to digital video. The fire wire helps to transfer the video from video camera to the computer. They also transfer digital video to the computer so that the data can be edited or stored. 11/7/2015 5 Norhasimah Mohamed, MIT MULTIMEDIA 4.2.2 Editing Software 4.2.3 Authoring Tools 11/7/2015 6 Norhasimah Mohamed, MIT Learning Outcomes 1.) Identify editing software that can be used to produce multimedia elements: • text editor • graphics and image editor • audio editor • video and animation editor 11/7/2015 7 Norhasimah Mohamed, MIT Learning Outcomes 2.)Define the various concepts in authoring tools: • time frame concept • icon concept • card concept 11/7/2015 8 Norhasimah Mohamed, MIT 4.2.2 Editing Software 11/7/2015 9 Norhasimah Mohamed, MIT Editing Software 11/7/2015 To edit the elements multimedia, we need special editing software. 10 Editing Software A text editor is used to edit plain text. 11/7/2015 11 Editing Software Generally a graphic editor can edit images, draw or illustrate pictures or objects. 11/7/2015 12 Editing Software Animation editors are used for producing 2D, 3D, special effects and animation for the Web. 11/7/2015 13 Editing Software An audio editor is used for voice recording or producing music and special sound effects. 11/7/2015 14 Editing Software A video editor is used to edit video. 11/7/2015 15 Editing Software 11/7/2015 Example of editing software for producing a multimedia program 16 4.2.3 Authoring Tools 11/7/2015 17 Authoring Tools is a program that helps you write multimedia applications. usually enable you to create a final application by linking together objects such as a paragraph of text, graphic or a video. By sequencing them in an appropriate order, authoring tools can produce attractive and useful multimedia applications. 11/7/2015 18 Authoring Tools Concept 11/7/2015 19 Time Frame Concept 11/7/2015 20 Time Frame Concept With time frame concept authoring tools, the multimedia elements or events are presented and organised along a time line. This type of tool helps users coordinate when each multimedia element (text, graphics, audio, video or animation) plays. In time frame concept authoring tools, a timeline consists of layers which span several frames. 11/7/2015 21 Icon Concept 11/7/2015 22 Icon Concept The icon concept in authoring tools provides the multimedia developer with a visual programming approach to sequencing events in the multimedia application. In this concept, elements and events are organised in a structural framework. 11/7/2015 23 Card Concept 11/7/2015 24 Card Concept The card concept in authoring tools are based on the idea of card stacks containing graphics, audio, video, text and animation. Elements and events in card concept authoring tools are organised as pages in a book or a stack of cards. 11/7/2015 25 Summarize Hardware functions Editing software Authoring Tools Concept 11/7/2015 26 st 1 Assessment Scrap Book Immersive multimedia in Education, Business, and Entertainment. 11/7/2015 27 THANK YOU • Computer Game • Virtual Reality
