 Problems we have encountered  Conclusions and questions

What is CONTENTdm?

 CONTENTdm is a powerful digital collection management package.

 It is an XML based management software that gives you all the tools you need to digitize and present digital content.

 CONTENTdm is not a database. There is no Oracle or SQL component storing the data. It is just a series of flat pointer files.

Why was CONTENTdm right for us?

 “Out of Box” solution   Technical support (

)

Minimum hardware requirements  Industry standards  OAI2, Dublin Core, XML, JPEG2000, Z39.50

 Flexibility  Acquisition station, web interface, WorldCat, harvesting  Scalability  Extremely easy to learn, maintain and utilize.

So you decided to go with CONTENTdm and have successfully installed it. Now what?

CONTENTdm specifics  CONTENTdm 4.0 uses proprietary executables for applications and PHP for web language.

 Design changes can be implemented by tweaking include pages and swapping out images.

 Plenty of documentation to help steer you through this.

Putting CONTENTdm to work  Quick tour of www.CFMemory.org

 Items we will be covering  How to access the collection (3 ways)  Site administration • Reports • • • Users Field Properties Exporting a collection

Speed bumps we encountered  Hardware Issues  Hard drive space!

 Development vs. Production  Software Issues  What the user sees vs. what we need to see  How to structure the project

Final Thought and Questions  CONTENTdm was the perfect solution for us. It offered rapid development, minimal management and flexibility of design.  Any questions?
