presents
New Employee Orientation:
Organizational Structure
1
Performance Objectives

Recognize the organizational structure of
the Indiana Department of Correction.

Understand the importance of the
organizational structure.
2
IDOC Organizational Structure
The organizational structure of the
Department groups similar functions,
services, and activities into administrative
sub-units (i.e. divisions, sections, etc).
The organizational structure also clearly
designates lines of responsibility, authority,
and support.
3
IDOC Organizational Structure
The organizational structure of the
Department of Correction encourages
communication up and down the chain of
command.
The chain of command is a para-military
structure, which provides a departmental
breakdown for all employees and
stakeholders of the agency.
4
Importance of Organizational Structure
The most important part of the IDOC
organizational structure is that it provides:

Accountability of all employees of the
agency to ensure safety of the
community, staff, and offenders.

A support mechanism for the mission of
the Department.
