INFLUENCING OUR CHILDREN
Part 1
Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from
the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he
should go, And when he is old he will not depart
from it.
Ephesians 6:4 And you, fathers, do not provoke
your children to wrath, but bring them up in the
training and admonition of the Lord.
3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that
my children walk in truth.
Genesis 18:19 "For I have known (ESV Chosen)
him, in order that he may command his children
and his household after him, that they keep the
way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice,
that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has
spoken to him."
Deuteronomy 6:5 "You shall love the LORD your
God with all your heart, with all your soul, and
with all your strength. 6 " And these words which
I command you today shall be in your heart. 7
"You shall teach them diligently to your children,
and shall talk of them when you sit in your house,
when you walk by the way, when you lie down,
and when you rise up.
Psalm 78:1 Give ear, O my people, to my law; Incline your
ears to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in
a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, 3 Which we
have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. 4
We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the
generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His
strength and His wonderful works that He has done. 5 For
He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law
in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they
should make them known to their children; 6 That the
generation to come might know them, The children who
would be born, That they may arise and declare them to
their children, 7 That they may set their hope in God, And
not forget the works of God, But keep His
commandments;
2 Timothy 3:14 But you must continue in the
things which you have learned and been assured
of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the
Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise
for salvation through faith which is in Christ
Jesus.
How did he learn about the Scriptures from his
youth?
Who taught him and influenced Him?
2 Timothy 1:5 when I call to remembrance the
genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in
your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice,
and I am persuaded is in you also.
2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that you have heard
from me among many witnesses, commit these to
faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
Matthew 7:24 " Therefore whoever hears these
sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him
to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
25 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and
the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did
not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 "But
everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and
does not do them, will be like a foolish man who
built his house on the sand: 27 "and the rain
descended, the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was
its fall."
When you are at home, do keep your language
clean?
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out
of your mouth, but what is good for necessary
edification, that it may impart grace to the
hearers.
Do you keep alcohol in your home and drink one
every once in awhile to relax yourself?
Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a
brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not
wise.
Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit to your own
husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is
head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the
church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24
Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ,
so let the wives be to their own husbands in
everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as
Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for
her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her
with the washing of water by the word, 27 that
He might present her to Himself a glorious
church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, but that she should be holy and without
blemish.
28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as
their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves
himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh,
but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord
does the church. 30 For we are members of His
body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 "For this
reason a man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two shall
become one flesh." 32 This is a great mystery,
but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33
Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so
love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see
that she respects her husband.
You must also teach the value of obedience and
respect to your children.
Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the
Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and
mother," which is the first commandment with
promise: 3 "that it may be well with you and you
may live long on the earth."
Make sure your children understand the
importance of God’s Word.
INFLUENCING OUR CHILDREN
Part 2
Joshua 24:15"And if it seems evil to you to serve
the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom
you will serve, whether the gods which your
fathers served that were on the other side of the
River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land
you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will
serve the LORD."
Satan also knows if he influences enough homes
he can influence an entire nation.
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people.
Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell,
And all the nations that forget God.
According to The New York Times and A.C.
Nielsen Company we learn that: 99% of American
households have one TV; 66% have at least
three; 68% of kids, ages 8-18 have a TV in their
room.
The average American spends about four hours a
day watching TV, which = two months a year.
If we live to the age of 65, 9 years of our life will
be taking up by watching TV.
It teaches that adultery and fornication are
acceptable.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the
unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor
idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor
sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor
drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will
inherit the kingdom of God.
It teaches that marriage is temporary and you
can break it off for any reason.
Matthew 19:9 "And I say to you, whoever
divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality,
and marries another, commits adultery; and
whoever marries her who is divorced commits
adultery.“
Matthew 19:6 Therefore what God has joined
together, let not man separate."
It teaches that homosexuality is ok.
Leviticus 18:22 'You shall not lie with a male as
with a woman. It is an abomination.
Romans 1:26 For this reason God gave them up
to vile passions. For even their women exchanged
the natural use for what is against nature. 27
Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of
the woman, burned in their lust for one another,
men with men committing what is shameful, and
receiving in themselves the penalty of their error
which was due.
It teaches us that profanity is ok.
Colossians 3:8 But now you yourselves are to put
off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy,
filthy language out of your mouth.
Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is
he.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things
are true, whatever things are noble, whatever
things are just, whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely, whatever things are
of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is
anything praiseworthy -- meditate on these
things.
1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Evil
company corrupts good habits."
1. The American Psychiatric Association says:
“Exposure to media portrayals of violence
increases aggressive behavior in children.”
2. The AFA Journal says: “Children who are
exposed to sexual material in media become
sexually active earlier in life.”
3. The National Coalition for the Protection of
Children and Families says: Children who watch
programs with heavy sexual content are twice
as likely to have sex as those who watch few
programs with sexual content.”
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he
should go, And when he is old he will not depart
from it.
Please note the following statistics from the
Kaiser Family Foundation:
• 86% of American homes are equipped with a
computer.
• 31% of teens have computers in their bedroom.
• 20% are able to access the internet from a
computer in their bedroom.
• On average, teens spend around 14 hrs on the
internet each week.
According to familyfirst.net 9 out 10 children
between 8-16 have viewed pornography on the
internet.
How many marriages do you know that have
been made stronger because of drugs or alcohol.
Proverbs 23:31 Do not look on the wine when it is
red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls
around smoothly; 32 At the last it bites like a
serpent, And stings like a viper. 33 Your eyes will
see strange things, And your heart will utter
perverse things.
1 Timothy 2:9 in like manner also, that the
women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with
propriety and moderation, not with braided hair
or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which
is proper for women professing godliness, with
good works.
When our homes are Christ-centered:
• We will not tolerate filthy movies or
unwholesome television programs.
• Parents will not dress immodestly or allow their
children to do so.
• Parents will not use drugs or alcohol, and we
will teach or children to stay away from them and
from those that use them.
• Parents will teach their children the Word of
God and set aside time for prayer and Bible study.
• Parents will teach their children that God
always come first in our lives.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversary the devil walks about like a roaring
lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Joshua 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve
the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom
you will serve, whether the gods which your
fathers served that were on the other side of the
River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land
you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will
