The Christian life is a life of self-denial
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples,
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25
"For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
26 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the
whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will
a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 "For the
Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father
with His angels, and then He will reward each
according to his works.
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings
salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us
that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we
should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the
present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and
glorious appearing of our great God and Savior
Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He
might redeem us from every lawless deed and
purify for Himself His own special people, zealous
for good works.
Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh
you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death
the deeds of the body, you will live.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren,
by the mercies of God, that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,
which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that you may prove
what is that good and acceptable and perfect will
of God.
1 Corinthians 9:27 But I discipline my body and
bring it into subjection, lest, when I have
preached to others, I myself should become
disqualified.
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to
whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do
you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in
you? -- unless indeed you are disqualified.
2 Corinthians 8:1 Moreover, brethren, we make
known to you the grace of God bestowed on the
churches of Macedonia: 2 that in a great trial of
affliction the abundance of their joy and their
deep poverty abounded in the riches of their
liberality. 3 For I bear witness that according to
their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they
were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much
urgency that we would receive the gift and the
fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5 And
not only as we had hoped, but they first gave
themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will
of God.
, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and
then to us by the will of God.
Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of
this present time are not worthy to be compared
with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
The Christian life is a life of good works.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand that we should walk in
them.
Acts 26:19 " Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not
disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 "but
declared first to those in Damascus and in
Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of
Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should
repent, turn to God, and do works befitting
repentance.
Titus 3:1 Remind them to be subject to rulers and
authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good
work,
Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these
things I want you to affirm constantly, that those
who have believed in God should be careful to
maintain good works. These things are good and
profitable to men.
Titus 3:14 And let our people also learn to
maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that
they may not be unfruitful.
Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while
doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we
do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to
those who are of the household of faith.
Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A
city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 "Nor
do they light a lamp and put it under a basket,
but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who
are in the house. 16 "Let your light so shine
before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved
brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that
your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Luke 19:11 Now as they heard these things, He
spoke another parable, because He was near
Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom
of God would appear immediately. 12 Therefore
He said: "A certain nobleman went into a far
country to receive for himself a kingdom and to
return. 13 "So he called ten of his servants,
delivered to them ten minas, and said to them,
'Do business till I come.' 14 "But his citizens
hated him, and sent a delegation after him,
saying, 'We will not have this man to reign over
us.'
15 "And so it was that when he returned, having
received the kingdom, he then commanded these
servants, to whom he had given the money, to be
called to him, that he might know how much
every man had gained by trading. 16 "Then came
the first, saying, 'Master, your mina has earned
ten minas.' 17 "And he said to him, 'Well done,
good servant; because you were faithful in a very
little, have authority over ten cities.' 18 "And the
second came, saying, 'Master, your mina has
earned five minas.' 19 "Likewise he said to him,
'You also be over five cities.'
20 "Then another came, saying, 'Master, here is
your mina, which I have kept put away in a
handkerchief. 21 'For I feared you, because you
are an austere man. You collect what you did not
deposit, and reap what you did not sow.' 22 "And
he said to him, 'Out of your own mouth I will
judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I
was an austere man, collecting what I did not
deposit and reaping what I did not sow. 23 'Why
then did you not put my money in the bank, that
at my coming I might have collected it with
interest?'
24 "And he said to those who stood by, 'Take the
mina from him, and give it to him who has ten
minas.' 25 ("But they said to him, 'Master, he has
ten minas.') 26 'For I say to you, that to everyone
who has will be given; and from him who does
not have, even what he has will be taken away
from him. 27 'But bring here those enemies of
mine, who did not want me to reign over them,
and slay them before me.' "
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before
the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may
receive the things done in the body, according to
what he has done, whether good or bad.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and
great, standing before God, and books were
opened. And another book was opened, which is
the Book of Life. And the dead were judged
according to their works, by the things which
were written in the books.
The life of a Christian is a life of joy and gladness.
Deuteronomy 23:1 "He who is emasculated by
crushing or mutilation shall not enter the
assembly of the LORD.
Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and
beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to
him. 36 Now as they went down the road, they
came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See,
here is water. What hinders me from being
baptized?" 37 Then Philip said, "If you believe
with all your heart, you may." And he answered
and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
God." 38 So he commanded the chariot to stand
still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down
into the water, and he baptized him. 39 Now
when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of
the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch
saw him no more; and he went on his way
rejoicing.
Acts 20:22 "And see, now I go bound in the spirit
to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will
happen to me there, 23 "except that the Holy
Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains
and tribulations await me. 24 "But none of these
things move me; nor do I count my life dear to
myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and
the ministry which I received from the Lord
Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Acts 5:41 So they departed from the presence of
the council, rejoicing that they were counted
worthy to suffer shame for His name. 42 And
daily in the temple, and in every house, they did
not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the
Christ.
Psalm 32:11 Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you
righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in
heart!
