Extend our current ESEA Waiver
 All states are given the option to request an
extension of their current waivers for an
additional year.
 If approved, our waiver would extend into the
2014-15 school year.

Respond to our current conditional
“high risk” status
 Involves Principle 3 of our waiver.
 How Kansas chooses to use student growth as
a significant factor in teacher/leader
evaluations.
 Positive response/progress with the USDE
 Submitted our response on January 27, 2014
and are waiting on a response.

 Kansas will have CETE develop our state
assessments instead of being involved with
Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium
 A new assessment model that allows for
multiple assessments at the high school level
 Re-think how we identify “Not Making
Progress” schools

Move the use of using student growth
data to inform personnel decisions
 Results from the state assessments would not

into key initiatives, develop learning materials,
and spread the message regionally across
Kansas.
 Includes 7 service centers, large districts,
regional representatives, etc.
