Okay Getaway Gang, its time to head down the coast to beautiful Santa Barbara for a weekend of
fun, sun and golf. While your at it, you may want to bring your sun tan lotion and spend a little
time relaxing on the beach. This year promises to be another really enjoyable outing. The two
courses are extremely scenic and the latter of the two will be played at the seaside Sandpiper Golf
Course. Sandpiper is touted as the “Poor Man’s Pebble Beach” only because it is similar to the
Pebble Beach course, but a lot less expensive . Both courses offer stunning views of the Pacific
ocean and the Sandpiper even has five holes right on the waterfront.
While in Santa Barbara you have options of staying at outstanding Resorts located on the beach
plus plenty of attractions throughout the area. In addition to all that, we will be playing two very
nice golf courses. Glen Annie has been rated 4 stars by Golfweek, while the Sandpiper has
received 4.5 stars. Both of these golf courses are nationally recognized in their own way. They
each offer a flavor and personality ranging from the formal sophistication of Glen Annie to the
amazing beauty of Sandpiper.

Santa Barbara offers escape and relaxation, along with opportunities to contemplate the ocean,
mountains, and engaging vistas, and to explore a bit of history and humankind’s relationship to
coastal ecology. The area offers a multitude of activities for active and passive vacationers:
everything from swimming, boating, hiking, and sports fishing to the more exotic jet skiing,
kayaking, whale-watching, windsurfing, horseback riding, and more. Or you can select your beach
lounge chair, watch the scenery, and relax Santa Barbara-style. Santa Barbara enjoys a pleasant
Mediterranean climate that is generally mild and sunny all 12 months of the year, with relatively
stable temperatures; there is no real “off-season.”
Glen Annie is a Robert Muir Graves and Damian Pascusso designed course just west of Santa
Barbara in Goleta. The course is an Audubon certified course, very well conditioned, and with
great views of the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands. This is a championship golf course with
first class amenities situated in the rolling foothills of scenic Santa Barbara. It has a nice layout
and even though it is only 6400 yards from the back tees the slope is 130. You will find it to be
very challenging. The golf layout is a modern design with a lot of elevation changes, enhanced by
breathtaking panoramic views. It is always maintained with the highest standards. The course
conditions are excellent from the tee box to green and has a number of very memorable holes.
An inspiring combination of challenge and beauty as the second day of championship golf brings
you to the edge of the Pacific Ocean. With breathtaking ocean and mountain views from every
hole, Sandpiper is truly a memorable experience. The golf course at Sandpiper has been rated by
Golf Digest in the top twenty-five public golf courses in the country. It was designed by William F.
Bell and opened in 1972 featuring beautiful rolling fairways and challenging greens in a seaside
links style layout. Sandpiper's dynamic design attracts players of all skill levels including players of
the highest caliber. Measuring over 7000 yards, with championship rating of 74.5, Sandpiper has
challenged the abilities of the PGA and LPGA players alike, playing host to several professional
tournaments including: The PGA Tour Tournament Players Series, The LPGA Tour Santa Barbara
Women's Open, and the prestigious final stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying school. Sandpiper
combines a traditional championship golf and spectacular surroundings to provide their guests
with something much more than a round of golf.

Here is the plan. Since we will be playing golf on the coastline I decided it might be advantageous to
wait a little longer this year for scheduling this event. We will be headed down to Santa Barbara the
first week of May allowing for what I am hoping will be warmer weather. As has been the case the last
few years, Saturday (4/20/13) most likely will be utilized as a travel day. The first day of golf has
been scheduled for The Glen Annie Golf Course on Sunday (4/21/13), with our second day of golf
taking place at the scenic Sandpiper Golf Course on Monday (4/22/13). Finally, Tuesday (4/23/13) will
probably be the return day for most of you. This is not a package deal, so feel free to make your own
hotel reservations and stay wherever you would like. I have included some information on a couple of
extremely nice oceanfront resorts in case you would like to live it up and/or bring along your
spouse/significant other
This year as in the past, group dinners are planned. I have selected two options, The first dinner
social will be Sunday evening at the Harbor Restaurant on Stearn’s Pier in Santa Barbara. The second
dinner social will be Monday night at Holdren’s Steak & Seafood Restaurant in downtown Santa
Barbara .

210 Stearns Wharf,
Santa Barbara
Phone: (805) 963-3311

The quintessential snap shot of Santa Barbara is the long range view of the city’s famous pier, with a
picturesque boat harbor in the foreground and a background framed by the majestic Santa Ynez Mountains.
The anchor of this famous pier is one of Santa Barbara’s most popular eateries, the Harbor Restaurant on
Stearns Wharf. The 150 year old pier was a working pier from its infancy. The Harbor Restaurant and
Stearns Wharf were destroyed by fire in 1971 and rebuilt in 1981. In 1981 the Harbor Restaurant re-opened
and in 1988 was sold to the current owner, John Scott.
The Harbor Restaurant is a landmark of Santa Barbara and truly a dining experience. Enter the Harbor
Restaurant and take in the panoramic ocean views from your window table. Start with a cocktail from the
restaurant’s full bar or order a bottle of wine from a wine list that has received the Award of Excellence from
Wine Spectator Magazine for five consecutive years. Enjoy the freshest seafood that arrives daily in the
Santa Barbara harbor or a USDA prime char-grilled filet mignon prepared expertly by the Harbor Restaurant
chefs. Relax and enjoy one of Santa Barbara’s treasures – the Harbor Restaurant on Stearns Wharf.

The Central Coast has Italian and California restaurants aplenty, but Holdren's, a classic upscale
steakhouse, is somewhat of an anomaly. Specializing in mesquite-grilled Prime beef and top-shelf martinis,
this is a good place to host an old-fashioned good night out. There’s even a nice outdoor patio right on
State Street’s busy 500 block. All of their steaks are Midwestern corn-fed beef, which are aged to their
exact specifications and charbroiled over a mesquite grill. Steak lovers will enjoy their signature cowboy cut,
a 24-ounce bone-in rib chop, the 21-ounce Porterhouse or maybe the 10-ounce bacon wrapped Filet
Mignon. You can even add a grilled crust to any steak on the menu. Choices include horseradish and bleu
cheese or crab, with the other choice being bleu cheese and chipotle. Fresh seafood selections include
dishes such as Tiger Prawns or Jumbo Scallops wrapped in apple wood-smoked bacon, seared Sesame
Hawaiian Ahi, served with a spicy mustard soy sauce or their house favorite the Seafood Cioppino (one half
of a Maine lobster, calamari, clams, mussels, shrimp and fish in a spicy tomato sauce with toasted
parmesan crostini). Monday nights are all you can eat Baby-back Ribs for $20.

Santa Barbara offers escape and relaxation, along with opportunities to contemplate the ocean,
mountains, and engaging vistas, and to explore a bit of history and humankind’s relationship to
coastal ecology. The area offers a multitude of activities for active and passive vacationers: everything
from swimming, boating, hiking, and sports fishing to the more exotic jet skiing, kayaking, whalewatching, windsurfing, horseback riding, and more. Or you can select your beach lounge chair, watch
the scenery, and relax Santa Barbara-style. Santa Barbara enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate
that is generally mild and sunny all 12 months of the year, with relatively stable temperatures; there
is no real “off-season.”
The self-guided Red Tile Walking Tour, which is bounded by Victoria, Chapala, Ortega and Santa
Barbara streets, touches many of the city's landmarks. Of special interest is the County Courthouse an
architectural masterpiece completed in 1929. The Spanish-Moorish structure features tropical gardens
and lush lawns. In addition, historic adobes and El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park are
snapshot-worthy. Hop aboard the Downtown Waterfront Trolley, which cruises the length of the Red
Tile district for just 25 cents, or rent a whimsical quadricycle on State Street or Cabrillo Blvd. Santa
Barbara's historic Stearns Wharf features the Sea Center, with live displays and touch tanks, and the
Arts and Craft Show From Stearns Wharf you will see a multitude of sailboats and fishing boats in and
about the nearby Santa Barbara Harbor. A centerpiece at the Harbor is the Santa Barbara Maritime
Museum. This wonderful seaside museum features ship models, historic exhibits and floating exhibits.
If you're in search of a garden spot, there's a place for you. The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden offers
trails that wind through canyon, desert and other settings. Discover a variety of delectable items and
much more when you visit the Farmers Market. One of Santa Barbara's treasures, the Old Mission
Santa Barbara was founded in 1786. Its unique stone facade, which was copied from an ancient
Roman book on architecture, has made the mission a popular subject for photographers. Rooms filled
with artifacts and an old cemetery are open for exploration. The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is
known for innovative exhibitions and an unforgettable permanent collection, plus education programs
for kids of all ages. Marvel at Greek and Roman antiquities, as well and works from nineteenth- and
early twentieth-century American, French and English artists.
Less than an hour from Santa Barbara, in the Santa Ynez Valley, lies Santa Barbara’s wine country.
For a great introduction to wine tasting in this area, view the Santa Barbara Winery Guide (Santa Ynez
Valley), Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail (Santa Barbara) and Santa Barbara Wine Tours
Most of the nightlife scene is centered in Old Town Santa Barbara, particularly on State Street. Q’s
(409 State Street) and Velvet Jones (423 State St) are great for dancing to the latest sounds. Enjoy
live music at SoHo (1221 State St) which changes nightly, from jazz, blues, dance, funk, and reggae
to Eastern European traditional folk. To many people, State Street begins at none other than Joe’s
Café (536 State St) with their generously strong drinks. Also on State Street is the sports bar
O’Malley’s (523 State St). A more sophisticated croud is drawn to the bar scene and upstairs lounge at
Blue Agave (20 E. Cota St) and The James Joyce (513 State St). During warmer months the Santa
Barbara Bowl), an outdoor arena set into the local foothills, attracts all the major concert tours.
Santa Barbara hosts a variety of restaurant and dining options to please your palate. From the exotic
to the ordinary, a large selection of cuisines cater to every taste. Seafood lovers should be sure to
stop at Brophy Bros (Breakwater at the Harbor) and dine on the balcony overlooking the Santa
Barbara Harbor. Cajun cuisine connoisseurs might look no further than The Palace (8 East Cota St).
The award for finest Sushi on State Street might have to go to Arigato (1225 State St). Inexpensive,
stunning decor and incredible edible Italian lunch and dinners is just the beginning of the story about
Santa Barbara's very own Pascucci (729 State St). Then there is Cold Spring Tavern (5995 Stagecoach
Rd; 805-967-0066), considered one of Santa Barbara's precious jewels and always a great source for
drinks and steaks. Over one hundred years ago, dusty stagecoaches would stop by at what was then
known as "Cold Spring Relay Station" to change teams of horses and allow travelers to rest at this
stagecoach stop and enjoy one of the most delicious meals in the Old West. Though the stagecoaches
are gone, the rustic setting is virtually unchanged in a century.

Barbara .
We have a new option this year for paying! If you have a PayPal account, you can send funds directly

Barbara .

Museum. This wonderful seaside museum features ship models, historic exhibits and floating exhibits.

trails that wind through canyon, desert and other settings. Discover a variety of delectable items and

Santa Barbara was founded in 1786. Its unique stone facade, which was copied from an ancient
Roman book on architecture, has made the mission a popular subject for photographers. Rooms filled

Most of the nightlife scene is centered in Old Town Santa Barbara, particularly on State Street. Q’s

live music at SoHo (1221 State St) which changes nightly, from jazz, blues, dance, funk, and reggae
to Eastern European traditional folk.

Barbara .
We have a new option this year for paying! If you have a PayPal account, you can send funds directly

Barbara .

Santa Barbara

Most of the nightlife scene is centered in Old Town Santa Barbara, particularly on State Street. Q’s

live music at SoHo (1221 State St) which changes nightly, from jazz, blues, dance, funk, and reggae
to Eastern European traditional folk.

Barbara .
We have a new option this year for paying! If you have a PayPal account, you can send funds directly

stagecoach stop and enjoy one of the most delicious meals in the Old West. Though the stagecoaches
are gone, the rustic setting is virtually unchanged in a century.

Barbara .
We have a new option this year for paying! If you have a PayPal account, you can send funds directly

Over one hundred years ago, dusty stagecoaches would stop by at what was then

stagecoach stop and enjoy one of the most delicious meals in the Old West. Though the stagecoaches
