 Learners need to finalize their subject
choice by the beginning of term 3.
 Most subjects include 11 and 12

 Most subjects 75% Exams and 25%
SBA
 Learner may not write year end exam
if proof of portfolio (collection of SBA
work) is not produced.
 Some subjects eg. Consumer studies
50% Exams, 25 % SBA and 25%
practical component.
 Life Orientation 100% Internal

SBA Work
 All SBA work must be done and
handed in on time.
 All SBA work counts towards ultimate
Grade 12 final marks.
 Grade 10 – 12 Portfiolos must be
presented at the end of grade 12.
 In the past exams did not count
towards SBA. In the CAPS exams also
count towards SBA

 A learner can thus fail one
subject. This subject may not

Admission scores for Higher
Education
 Each university or university of Technology
has its own admission scores for the
various academic courses.
 Admission scores are calculated on the
basis of the learner’s performance in
various subjects.
 The learners must achieve a particular
rating before the can be admitted to certain
courses.

 For most programmes learners will
need 30 points and a minimum of
50% in their chosen language of
instruction at UFS.
 For certain programmes a required
level in a certain subject will be
required. For a B.Sc degree a level of
70% for Mathematics is required.
