Memorize Answer Exams Learners should do the following everyday. Go over work done in class. Do the required homework for the next day Work on tasks and projects Read A LEARNER MUST SPEND 2 HOURS A DAY ON SCHOOL WORK or reading an English book or magazine Subject changes Learners need to finalize their subject choice by the beginning of term 3. Most subjects include 11 and 12 work. Assessment Most subjects 75% Exams and 25% SBA Learner may not write year end exam if proof of portfolio (collection of SBA work) is not produced. Some subjects eg. Consumer studies 50% Exams, 25 % SBA and 25% practical component. Life Orientation 100% Internal (Portfolio) SBA Work All SBA work must be done and handed in on time. All SBA work counts towards ultimate Grade 12 final marks. Grade 10 – 12 Portfiolos must be presented at the end of grade 12. In the past exams did not count towards SBA. In the CAPS exams also count towards SBA Grade 10 to 12 Pass requirements English 40% 40% for two of any remaining subjects 30% for three of the remaining subjects A learner can thus fail one subject. This subject may not be English. Admission scores for Higher Education Each university or university of Technology has its own admission scores for the various academic courses. Admission scores are calculated on the basis of the learner’s performance in various subjects. The learners must achieve a particular rating before the can be admitted to certain courses. Calculation of AP scores. Life orientation is usually excluded. NCS-Level of Achievement Scores Percentage 8 90-100% 7 80-89% 6 70-79% 5 60-69% 4 50-59% 3 40-49% 2 30-39% How are admission points calculated? Subject All the level scores get added except LO 5+4+3+4+5+4= 25 If a learner achieves level 6 or above for LO 1 point is added. Ap score for this learner is 26 % Level English 60 5 Afrikaans 56 4 Life Orientation 70 6 Maths 48 3 Economics 56 4 Consumer Studies 62 5 Business Studies 59 4 Scores needed for acceptance at UFS For most programmes learners will need 30 points and a minimum of 50% in their chosen language of instruction at UFS. For certain programmes a required level in a certain subject will be required.
