WHAT IS SYMBOLISM?
 The practice of representing things by means of symbols or of
attributing symbolic meanings or significance to objects, events, or
relationships.
EXAMPLES (CHAPTER 3)
 Page 1- -> Represents radioactivity, death, cancer, danger, the end soon
to come. Just like when someone is expose to radioactive material, it
takes time before death gets them. A slow, timing, and painful death. The
way society is seen in Watchmen.
PAGE 2 * CARTOON CHARACTER
Represents Jon, who is both a survivor who is put under a serious pressure to
come to the aid of the “world” (United States)
Chapter 3 (Cartoon Girl)
 Symbolizes Laurie Juspeczyk and how she gave so much
love to John Osterman, but he couldn’t giver her the love
she desire back.

It is a reflection of Laurie Juspeczyk’s own
feelings toward Jon at the moment. She is
remembering how things used to be, and how
in the good old days, things were great. The
nostalgia is flooding back to Laurie as she runs
off to Dan’s house
