Long Vowels
• Long vowels “say their name”.
• Long vowels sound very similar to the name of the vowel.
• Long vowels are represented by a macron. (ō,ē,ī,ū)
Short Vowels
• Short vowels do not say their name and do not sound like the name of the vowel.
• Short vowels are normally represented in between two consonants.
• Short vowels are represented with a breve. (í,é,á,ó)
