The message of this film is a message that needs to
be heard for students in Taiwan today and is a message
that is important to the students in this project. How much
is a soul worth is a question that these students have to
face every day of their lives. When asked what they wanted
to portray the cast members said things like, “Everyone is
different in some way but we all need to be respected,” or
“Everyone is equal,” and “People like parents or your peers
can have the a positive or a negative influence on your life.”
When people can see this message hopefully they can feel
inspired to change. Like Johnny Lingo says, “What matters
most is what a [person] things of [themselves].”
When we started discussing about what kind of film we
wanted to perform we decided that we wanted to pick
something that related to kids nowadays. We thought this
way the film could be relate-able to our audience. We felt
that an important issue to our peers today is self-image or
self worth.
As we talked about this topic we looked through many
stories about students but couldn’t find anything we liked.
Then we found the Polynesian story of Mahana. We really
liked the story because it was short but quite dramatic.
We felt the characters in this drama also illustrated clearly
many of the influences that we found in our survey.
