Ethernet Switch Tests
Tested Switches:
KTI
KS-2260
3com 4526
HP
Procurve 2524
HP
Procurve 2626
Alcatel Omniswitch 6624
Netgear fsm7328s
All switches are SNMP managable
All switches have solid metal case
All switches show a maximum GND noise below 300 mV PP

Magnetic Field Tests
Done by Marc Stockmeier
Conditions:
Current : 20A
Field : appr. 300 G
Results :
Netgear fsm7328s worked in all orientations. It has no fans.
HP procurve 2524 worked in all orientations.
HP procurve 2626 was destroyed when power was switched on.
Alcatel omniswitch 2624 works in two orientations.

IEC 61000-4-4 EMI Tests
Done by Fabio Formenti
• The burst test according IEC 61000-4-4 simulates a nearby power
cable that is attached to an opening circuit breaker or fuse.
• The behavior of all switches seem substantially similar. i.e. not large
spread of performance. This is due to the fact that the weaker device in
the Ethernet chain seems to be the (common) DCS card that looses the
link first. However, it looks that with our setup a slightly better
performance is obtained with the NETGEAR, followed by the two HPs
(about the same) and finally by the Alcatel.
• When terminating the Ethernet cable without DCS no great difference
detected between the Netgear, HP2524 and HP2626. Some difference
for Alcatel (main peak moved ahead from ~4MHz to ~11MHz and higher
peak at ~80MHz)

Ethernet Switch Tests
Cable Length Tests:
Unless the KTI switch all switches behaved well on a 85m long cable.
The KS-2260 did only work up to 50m!
Conclusion:
We decided to recommend the Netgear fsm7328s switch because of its
magnetic field robustness (no fan). It behaves well on long cables with
the DCS boards.
Signal quality is not the best but connection behaves well.
