INTRODUCTION

This is a 9th through 12th grade music lesson (standard 3.3) on The role of musicians. The students will research and create a power point slide on a musician of their choice.

Expectations

Outcomes

I learned the following: •Charting and Graphing with excel •Web page creation in Netscape Composer •Linking pages and projects •Power point •Excel •Downloading and uploading techniques

Successes

•High interest •Students engaged •Interest in topic •Parent interest •Wonderful power point presentations

Successes Continued

•Meets standards •Meets more than one standard •Students use typing skills at a young age •Historical and cultural contextual learning

Shortcomings

•Students didn’t like the writing component •Lack of numerous computers in the classroom •Lack of student knowledge of Power Point •Time for students to type own projects

Student Data

The students improved in their post tests and the average of their projects. There were a few students that did not improve. These students either did not complete the assignments or their attendance was poor.

Summary

This project helped me see how using technology could enhance the learning of music students. The Internet may NOT be the best technology for your age student. High school students were very creative with this project and loved to mix technology mediums.

SUMMARY CONTINUED

Taking a standard and creating a lesson around it is a skill that more people need to explore. I hope to be able to use the lessons that others have created in this project as time progresses. I have learned a lot from this project. I hope to use some of the skills I have learned to educate others.
