At Fellowship Church, there are two things that we continue to do as Jesus did when He was on the Earth

COMMUNION

&

BAPTISM

Both proclaim the Gospel: “Jesus died on the cross and Jesus rose from the dead”

It Means…

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Baptism comes from the Greek word “Baptizo”

It means to DIP, like a piece of cloth is dipped into a vat of dye

IT MEANS TO SUBMERGE INTO!

Webster’s Says…

“To initiate into a church by sprinkling water or immersing” (Now that’s Politically Correct!)

It MUST Be Important Someone special was sent from God to Witness and Baptize

It MUST Be Important John 1:6-8 6 7 8 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

It MUST Be Important John 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

It MUST Be Important John 1:29-30 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

It MUST Be Important Jesus Christ Himself was Baptized

It MUST Be Important Matthew 3:13-15 13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

It MUST Be Important Matthew 3:13-15 15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

It MUST Be Important God the Father and God the Holy Spirit were very pleased

It MUST Be Important Matthew 3:16-17 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

It MUST Be Important Matthew 3:16-17 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

It MUST Be Important

From the get-go, Jesus told His Disciples to Baptize people

It MUST Be Important John 3:22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

It MUST Be Important John 4:1-3 1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 3 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

It MUST Be Important It was a big part of the last thing Jesus commanded His Disciples to do

It MUST Be Important Matthew 28:16-20 16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

It MUST Be Important Matthew 28:16-20 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

It MUST Be Important Matthew 28:16-20 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

What MUST Baptism Proclaim

What MUST Baptism Proclaim Romans 6:3-5 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

What MUST Baptism Proclaim Romans 6:3-5 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

What MUST Baptism Proclaim Romans 6:3-5 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection

What MUST Baptism Proclaim Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism First, you must believe in the Death, Burial & Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 8:35-38 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 8:35-38 36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 8:35-38 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 8:35-38 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Second, you must gladly receive Jesus Christ as YOUR personal Lord and Savior!

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 2:38-41 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 2:38-41 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 2:38-41 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism Acts 2:38-41 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism

It must be YOUR decision, not the Church or someone else’s!

What MUST Be Done Before Baptism

RECEIVE

Why MUST I Be Baptized

Jesus Commanded It!

Why MUST I Be Baptized Matthew 28:19-20 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Why MUST I Be Baptized

Your Conscience Demands It!

Why MUST I Be Baptized 1 Peter 3:21-22 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Why MUST I Be Baptized 1 Peter 3:21-22 22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Why MUST I Be Baptized Acts 19:1-5 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

Why MUST I Be Baptized Acts 19:1-5 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

Why MUST I Be Baptized Acts 19:1-5 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

Why MUST I Be Baptized Acts 19:1-5 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

If you were Baptized as a child or teenager, or as an adult for that matter…

And you are not absolutely convinced that you knew what you were doing and who you were doing it for…

I would seriously consider getting Baptized again!

It’s Important!

You acknowledge your own sinfulness

Through Baptism…

You acknowledge your belief in Jesus Christ’s Death

Through Baptism…

You acknowledge your belief in Jesus Christ’s Burial

Through Baptism…

You acknowledge your belief in Jesus Christ’s Resurrection

Through Baptism…

You acknowledge that this is the ONLY WAY for Forgiveness and Salvation

Through Baptism…

You gladly receive Him as your Savior and Lord

Through Baptism…

You desire to walk in Newness of Life!
