The Woodcutter
คนตัดไม้
Once upon a time, there was
a very strong woodcutter. He
asked for a job from a timber
merchant, and he got it.
กาลครั้งหนึ่ง มีคนตัดไม้ที่เก่งมากคนหนึ่ง ซึ่งได้ทางานกับ
พ่อค้าไม้
The pay was really good and
so were the work conditions.
For that reason the
woodcutter was determined to
do his best.
เนื่องจากพ่อค้าไม้ได้จ่ายผลตอบแทนและสภาพการทางาน
ที่ดีให้แก่เขา ดังนั้น คนตัดไม้จึงตั้งใจแน่วแน่ที่จะทางาน
ของเขาให้ดีที่สุด
His boss gave him an axe and
showed him the area where
he was supposed to work.
เจ้านายได้ให้ขวานและบอกให้เขาไปตัดไม้ในพื้นที่ที่
กาหนดให้
The first day, the woodcutter
brought down 18 trees.
ในวันแรกคนตัดไม้ สามารถตัดไม้ได้ถึง 18 ต้น
The Boss was very much
impressed and said,
"Congratulations keep it up!"
เจ้านายประทับใจในตัวเขามาก และกล่าวชมเขา “ดีมาก
ทางานให้ดีต่อไปน่ะ”
Very motivated by the words
of the boss, the woodcutter
tried harder the next day, but
he only could bring down 15
trees.
เพราะเขาได้รับกาลังใจที่ดีจากเจ้านาย เขาจึงตั้งใจที่จะทางาน
หนักขึ้นในวันต่อมา แต่เขากลับตัดไม้ได้เพียง 15 ต้นเท่านั้น
The third day he tried even
harder, but he could only bring
down 10 trees.
ในวันที่สาม เขาเพียรพยายามมากขึ้นไปอีก แต่กลับตัดไม้ได้
เพียง 10 ต้นเท่านั้น
Day after day he was bringing
down less and less trees. "I
must be losing my strength",
the woodcutter thought to
himself.

He went to the boss and
apologized, saying that he
could not understand what
was going on.
เขาจึงไปหาเจ้านายของเขาเพื่อขอโทษ และบอกกับเจ้านาย
ว่า เขาไม่เข้าใจว่าทาไมผลลัพธ์มนั จึงเป็ นเช่นนี้
"When was the last time you
sharpened your Axe?" the
boss asked.
เจ้านายจึงถามเขาว่า “ เธอได้ลบั ขวานครั้งสุ ดท้าย
เมื่อไหร่ ?”
"Sharpen? I had no time to
sharpen my Axe. I have been
very busy trying to cut trees.
“ลับขวานเหรอครับ? ผมไม่มีเวลาที่จะลับขวานของผม
เลย ผมยุง่ อยูแ่ ต่การตัดต้นไม้”
The moral of the story:
ข้อคิดของเรื่ องนี้
Our lives are like that. We
sometimes get so busy that
we don't take time to sharpen
the axe.
ชีวิตของพวกเราก็เช่นกัน บางครั้งเรายุง่ เสี ยจนไม่มีเวลา
จะลับขวานให้คมอยูเ่ สมอ
In today's world, it seems that
everyone is busier than ever,
but less happy than ever. Why
is that?
ในโลกทุกวันนี้ดูเหมือนทุกคนจะยุง่ มากขึ้นแต่กลับมี
ความสุ ขน้อยลงกว่าเคย ทาไมจึงเป็ นเช่นนั้น?
Could it be that we
have forgotten how
to stay sharp?
เป็ นไปได้หรื อเปล่าที่วา่ พวกเรา
ลืมที่จะมีชีวิตอยูอ่ ย่างชาญฉลาดที่
จะลับชีวิตของเราให้คม
There is nothing wrong with
activity and hard work.
มันไม่ผดิ ที่เราจะทางานหนัก
But we should not get so busy that we
neglect the truly important things in life,
like our personal life, taking time to care
for others, taking time to read, etc.
แต่เราไม่ควรวุน่ วายจนละเลยสิ่ งที่สาคัญในชีวิต เช่น ชีวิต
ส่ วนตัว การเอาใจใส่ ผอู ้ ื่น การให้เวลากับการอ่าหนังสื อ

We all need time to relax, to
think and meditate, to learn and
grow.
เราทุกคนต้องการเวลาที่จะผ่อนคลาย ที่จะคิด ที่จะสร้าง
สมาธิ และที่จะได้เรี ยนรู ้และเติบโต
If we don't take time to
sharpen our lives, we will
become dull and lose our
effectiveness also our
competency.

To stay competitive is as important as your
life and it is your responsibility to do so. It is
a guarantee that you will succeed and get
most wanted things in your career.

competency level. So that you can do
your job more effectively and add a lot
of value to it.
