Kyiv State Maritime Academy named
after hetman Petro KonashevichSahaydachniy (KSMA) is one of the
leading higher institutions of Ukraine
in maritime education of the IV level of
accreditation. During more than one
hundred years of the Academy
existence thousands of professionals
working in the national economy of
Ukraine and on ships under the flags
of almost all countries of the world
have been trained.
History of the Academy
• 1912 – Kyiv River College
• 1962 – Extramural Faculty of the Leningrad Maritime
Institute in Kyiv
• 1992 – Kyiv Maritime Institute of the Odessa State
Maritime Academy
• 1998 – Kyiv State Maritime Academy

2003 – Named after hetman Petro KonashevichSahaydachniy

Training at the Academy
• Navigators, ship engineers
and ship electrical engineers,
managers of organizations,
economists, accountants,
logistics specialists and
software engineers are being
trained at the Academy.
Teaching staff
• The teaching staff of the
Academy includes 220 highly
qualified scientific and
pedagogical experts - doctors
and candidates of sciences,
professors and associate
professors, as well as a large
number of sea captains and chief
engineers who have many years
of experience.

Resources
• The material and technical
resources of the educational
complex includes academy
buildings with more than 50
educational laboratories and
study rooms for general
subjects, the computer labs
equipped with modern
computers, a hostels, a
libraries, a spacious gym
and an assembly hall.

• The Academy is a full member of the
International Association of Maritime
Universities (IAMU), the Baltic and
International Maritime Council
(BIMCO) and works closely with
foreign higher institutions in
maritime education.

to implement the requirements
of the Manila Amendments to
the Convention on Training,
Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW)
into a national system of
education and training of
seafarers.

Training of Water Transport Specialists
• The Kyiv Training Center for Training,
Recurrent Training and Advanced
Training of Water Transport Specialists
is successfully operated as a division of
the Academy. The Center is equipped
with modern simulators, which
correspond to requirements of the
International Maritime Organization
(IMO), the International Convention on
Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), including
the Manila amendments.

• The Academy carries out the
training on Bachelor and Master
Programmes in 9 directions and 12
specialties.
• Period of study for Bachelor’s
degree is 4 years and Master's
degree - 1-1.5 years.
• Forms of study are full time and
extra-mural.
• Teaching languages are Ukrainian
and Russian.
• Another city students can get
accommodation in comfortable
hostels.

PREPARATORY DEPARTMENT
FOR FOREIGN CITIZENS
• Foreigners who do not speak the language of study
(Ukrainian or Russian) are admitted to the Preparatory
Department of the Academy
• During one year foreigners study the Ukrainian and/or
Russian language, the history of Ukraine, geography,
mathematics, physics, computer science and other
educational disciplines depending upon the chosen
direction.
• After completion of the Preparatory Department, final
tests are to be passed by students to be admitted by
different universities of Ukraine.
Student’s life at the Academy
• The Academy pays great
attention to physical and
sport training of the younger
generation.
• The Academy sports teams
on swimming, basket-ball,
track and field athletics and
others are leaders of Kyiv
championships and
Ukrainian Students Games.

• To develop student’s amateur
performances the Art and
Culture Center was created at
the Academy in 2002.The first
studio of the Center was the
little theater “Raido”.
