Rev:

ABB will invest US$ 400 million to double capacity of its high
voltage cables manufacturing facility in Karlskrona, Sweden, to
meet growing demand for subsea cables.
The investment plan includes construction of new buildings
and installation of additional manufacturing lines at the existing
plant.
The expansion will be carried out in a phased manner and is
expected to be completed by 2015.

Rev:
Lack of standardization and resources increases
uncertainty of delivery time, permitting and quality
Immature certification process and unclear definition
of applicable standards in many countries
Capacity of involved suppliers, authorities and class
such as BSH, DNV, TUV, etc. are bottlenecks
The frequent competition with oil & gas industry for
resources and supply is a limiting factor, cost driver.
The industry is in need for own standard and will not
benefit from copying oil & gas industry
Lack of consistent project procedures/
methodologies and predictability in execution.
There is a need for more industrialized conditions to
drive down cost, improve quality and ensure
certainty of in service date.
General observations by ABB OWC
Prerequisite / Opportunities for the future
General conditions for offshore wind power
Lower requirements than Norwegian sector / NORSOK
More cost sensitive than oil&gas
Difficult environment, when oil&gas is fully booked / hot
Many bottlenecks are foreseen and prerequisites for a future
successful development are increased:
