1. INSCRIPTIONS DANS LES TD D’ANGLAIS LANGUE B :
Vous allez suivre des cours d'anglais partagés avec les étudiants « non-spécialistes ».
Si vous êtes en 1ère année : la réunion de rentrée est suivie à 11h par une réunion OBLIGATOIRE
pour les étudiants choisissant l’anglais comme langue A ou langue B. Elle expliquera les MODALITES
d'INSCRIPTIONS DANS LES GROUPES. Les inscriptions pour les étudiants choisissant
l’anglais comme langue B se fera sur place à la fin de cette réunion.
Si vous êtes en 2ème ou 3ème année : vous devez impérativement vous inscrire dans les TD d’anglais
avant le début des cours. Les inscriptions se feront le mardi 2 septembre à 9h00 en salle 3204.
Ces inscriptions dans les T.D. sont obligatoires : vous ne pourrez ni suivre les cours ni passer les
examens si vous n'apparaissez pas sur la liste officielle.
Aucune inscription ne se fera en cours auprès de l'enseignant.

2. INFORMATIONS SUR LA FRAUDE ET LE PLAGIAT
Qu’est-ce que la fraude ?
- Lorsque vous sollicitez une personne tierce pour réaliser un travail universitaire faisant l’objet
d’une évaluation par un professeur ;
- Lorsque vous avez recours de manière illicite à des données, ou que vous échangez des
informations au cours d’un examen qui se déroule dans l’enceinte de l’université (triche) ;
- Lorsque vous cherchez à obtenir les questions ou les réponses d’un examen avant sa tenue ;
- Lorsque vous présentez un même travail à différents professeurs dans différents cours ;
Qu’est-ce que le plagiat ?
- Lorsque vous utilisez les formulations, l’opinion, l’analyse ou la théorie d’un auteur sans le
mentionner explicitement ;
- Dans le cadre universitaire, il convient de créditer les auteurs utilisés ; une simple liste d'articles
et d’ouvrages n'est pas suffisante.
Comment la fraude et le plagiat sont-ils sanctionnés ?
- Un cas de fraude manifeste est passible d’une convocation devant la commission disciplinaire
de l’université, accompagnée de lourdes sanctions ;
- L’auteur d’un cas de plagiat caractérisé se verra refuser l’autorisation de présenter ou soutenir un
travail. Une commission de discipline sera convoquée, ce qui entraînera l’annulation du module
et la non-délivrance du diplôme préparé ;
Comment l’éviter :
- Distinguez les propos d’autrui de votre propos par l’utilisation de guillemets. Chaque citation
utilisée doit être référencée en note de bas de page ;
- Constituez une bibliographie de tous les ouvrages, articles et sites web consultés au cours de
l’élaboration du travail remis au professeur ;
- Respectez les règles universitaires de citation. Celles-ci sont disponibles dans la rubrique
« Comment citer » de la page web du département d’anglais de l’université de Strasbourg :
www.departement-anglais.unistra.fr ;
- Vérifiez ! De nombreux sites vous permettent de vous assurer de l’originalité de votre travail
(taper plagiarism prevention service dans votre moteur de recherche vous offrira de nombreuses
solutions gratuites).

American culture: Portrayals of American youth past and present.

Through the study of varied materials (films, texts, TV series etc), this course focuses
on a range of representations of American youth. What vision(s) of it do the documents
present? What do those portrayals reveal about American society?

(films/texts/art) mirror the political landscape of the time, from the Victorian era to
today.

American culture: "Hittin' the road"

Be it a quest for freedom and adventure or a journey towards success, the road trip has
come to be seen as part of the American experience. Through a study of texts, images,
movies and songs, we will investigate how the road captured the American imagination and
we will embark on our own journey through American culture.

We will look at American history from the perspective of African Americans. This will
involve the study of historical documents, personal narratives of captivity and freedom,
art works, fiction as well as contemporary issues. You will be required to do some weekly
reading on the topic from the brochure available at the Imprimerie.
Civilisation nord-américaine : Multiculturalism in the United States and Canada - an
Introduction
Groupe 2 : Mardi 8h-10h, Mme Manolescu, Mme Cressman, A.22 (Platane)
This course will explore the social and political issues at stake in multicultural US and
Canada, two countries which have historically developed different perspectives on social
and ethnic diversity. Some key moments and relevant notions related to the issue of
multiculturalism in the two countries will be studied starting from documents of various
kinds (photographs and artworks, historical documents, newspaper articles, excerpts of
literary texts).
Littérature et Langue écrite : An introduction to British literature from the MiddleAges to the Age of the Novel

This course is an introduction to British literature. Starting from the Middle-Ages, the
major British authors will be presented in their historical and cultural contexts. Passages
from various texts and genres will be studied in class.

This course is an introduction to British literature. Starting from Pre-Romanticism, the
major British authors will be presented in their historical and cultural contexts. Passages
from various texts and genres will be studied in class.
Histoire, cinéma et séries : The Tudor Myth

The purpose of this class is to improve your linguistic skills (comprehension and
expression) in English (written and spoken) while learning about British history. The class
will focus on two major figures of British history (Henry VIII and Elizabeth I) as they
have been presented in the TV series The Tudors and Shekhar Kapur’s films on Elizabeth
I.

Civilisation américaine: An Introduction to Education in the United States

This course will cover the general functioning of the American school system
(organization, teacher training, the place of extracurricular activities, higher education)
and provide a survey of contemporary issues in American education (curriculum wars,
race, current reforms etc.)

Littérature et Langue écrite : The Press of the British Isles

In this class we will examine a panorama of paper and online news sources from Britain
and Ireland on topical subjects such as the Scottish referendum on independence and its
consequences, but also on topics of your choice. You will write press-reviews and articles
from different perspectives.

Civilisation américaine : American Cities, Real and Imagined

This class examines the rise of cities in the United States and their
symbolic meaning in American culture. It will include topics such as the symbolic
opposition between city and country, the layout of American cities (the "grid"),
immigration and ethnic segregation, car culture and the development of suburbia, as well
as the local character of cities such as New York, Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Civilisation américaine : Aspects of the American Counter-cultures of the 1950s and
1960s
Groupe 4 : Vendredi 14h - 16h, M. Lebold, Mme Tobin, s. 5ss01 (Patio)
In this course, we will study some literary and para-literary counter-cultural mythologies
of 1950s and 1960s America (including the blues, beat generation literature, early rock
and roll and sixties counterculture) and how those subcultural mythologies are
paradoxically central to the American imagination.
Documents from various sources (poems, literary texts, songs, films, images) will be
analysed, using tools from literary studies, cultural studies and semiology.

This course will focus on the figure of Robin Hood, from the moment of its apparition in
medieval texts to its most recent embodiments on screen. Students will be asked to
analyse texts and images or sequences from different movies.

Civilisation américaine : The American South
Groupe 4 : Jeudi 16h – 18h, Mme Bereau, s. 5104 (Patio)
A survey of the economic, political, and cultural specificities of the region known as "the
South" in the United States. Our investigations will take us through the history of the
region (the antebellum South, the Civil War and Reconstruction, the Jim Crow era, the
civil rights movement), contemporary issues, and representations of the region in culture
across the ages (the Southern Gothic tradition, the South in TV shows,...). Louisiana will
serve as our primary focus.
