Synopsis
Note d’intention
Margaux, six ans, se réveille tôt en ce matin d’août.
Elle s’approche de la fenêtre et voit son père
ranger des objets et des cartons dans la voiture.
Sa mère dort encore. Cette matinée d’été s’annonce
particulière pour la petite fille qui s’apprête à vivre
un moment important de sa vie.
Avec En Août j’avais envie de raconter les
der­niers instants quotidiens entre un père
et sa fille avant que ce dernier ne quitte
la maison.
Cette dernière matinée au sein de la maison
familiale raconte le passage de cette petite
fille de six ans vers un âge plus mûr.
Je suis souvent fascinée par le regard des
enfants sur les relations qui les entourent,
une sorte de regard souvent très franc
et parfois même très « adulte ». J’avais envie
avec le personnage de Margaux, la petite
fille, de filmer cette oscillation entre sa part
d’enfance et son ultra conscience de la
situation. Filmer sa manière d’agir face
à ce départ, sa révolte ou son angoisse
et cet aveu d’impuissance à la fin, l’acceptation que quelque chose de nouveau qui
arrive, son entrée dans un autre âge.
Mon désir principal est de plonger le
spectateur dans l’intimité de ces deux
personnages.
Je ne filme rien de spectaculaire. Cependant,
il me semble que le regard sur ces choses
infimes et sur les réactions instinctives
des personnages peut au cinéma devenir
spectaculaire, ou en tout cas fascinant.
Synopsis
Notice of intent
Margaux, six years old, awakens early
on this August morning. She goes to
the window and sees her father putting
objects and cardboard boxes into the car…
Her mother is still sleeping. This summer
morning promises to be a singular one for
the little girl, who is about to experience a
significant moment in her life.
With En Août I wanted to tell the story of the
last ordinary moments between a father and
his daughter before he leaves home. This last
morning spent in the family home describes
this six-year-old girl’s transition to a more
mature age.
I am often fascinated by children’s grasp
of the relationships around them, a kind of
vision often very frank and sometimes even
very adult-like. With Margaux’s character,
the little girl, I wanted to film this oscillation
between the child in her and her ultraconsciousness of the situation. To film the
way she acts facing this departure, her
outrage or her distress and this confession
of powerlessness at the end, the acceptance
of something new coming, her entry into
another age.
My main desire is to immerse the spectator
in the intimacy of these two characters.
I film nothing spectacular. However, it seems
to me that the observation of these tiny
things and of the characters’ instinctive
reactions can become, in a film, spectacular
or in any case fascinating.
Jenna Hasse
Née en 1989 à Lisbonne, Jenna Hasse est de
nationalité suisse et portugaise.
Après avoir suivi des cours d’Histoire et
Esthétique du Cinéma à l’Université de Lausanne ainsi que des cours au Conservatoire
de Genève en section théâtre, Jenna Hasse
intègre en 2011 la section d’Interprétation
dramatique de l’INSAS à Bruxelles.
En 2012, elle est lauréate du Prix d’encouragement d’art dramatique du Pour-cent
culturel Migros et est selectionnée comme
« Junge Talente » qui met en lumière huit
jeunes comédiens suisses. En 2013, elle est
invitée au FIFF à Namur en tant que comédienne pour l’atelier Echange de Talent.
Elle réalise en 2013 son premier courtmétrage En Août. Aujourd’hui, elle partage
son temps entre ses études à l’INSAS et
la réalisation de projets en tant qu’actrice
et metteur en scène pour le cinéma et le
théâtre. Elle crée en 2014 l’association
Galão com Açúcar avec son ami et monteur
Thomas Marchand dans le but de développer
de futurs projets artistiques.
Elle termine sa formation en juin 2014
et travaille actuellement à l’écriture de
son prochain court-métrage, Soltar.
Born in 1989 in Lisbon, Jenna Hasse is Swiss
and Portuguese.
After completing courses of History and
Aesthetics Cinema at the University of
Lausanne as well as theater courses at the
Geneva Conservatory, Jenna Hasse entered
in 2011 in the drama section of the INSAS
in Brussels.
David Lemoîne
In 2012, she won the Encouragement
drama Prize of the Pour-cent culturel Migros
and was selected as “Junge Talente” which
highlights eight young Swiss actors.
In 2013, she was invited to FIFF Namur
as an actress for the workshop Exchange
Talent. She directed in 2013 her first short
film En Août. Today, she divides her time
between her studies at INSAS and projects
as an actor and director for film and theater.
She creates in 2014 Galão com Açúcar an
association with her friend and editor
Thomas Marchand in order to develop
future art projects. She completed her
scolarschip in June 2014 and is currently
writing her next short film, Soltar.
Clarisse Moussa
Clarisse est née en Décembre 2006 près
de Genève. Entourée par ses deux sœurs
aînées, elle se passionne pour le violoncelle
et la danse classique. En août est sa
première expérience au cinema.
Clarisse Moussa was born in December
2006 near Geneva. Surrounded by her
two older sisters, she discovers the cello
and classical dance. En Août is her first
experience in Cinema.
Né en 1978 à Bordeaux. Musicien de la
scène rock et expérimentale.
Chanteur du groupe «Cheveu», créé en 2003
avec Olivier Demeaux et Etienne Nicolas.
Le trio sort ses premiers disques aux ÉtatsUnis puis tourne en France et en Europe
avec des groupes comme les Black Lips ou
Tyvek. Cheveu vient de sortir son troisième
album Bum, arrangé par la compositrice
israelienne Maya Dunietz, sur le label parisien
Born Bad.
En 2009, David Lemoîne créé le duo
expérimental Noyade avec Erik Minkkinen
(Sister Iodine, le Placard festival). En 2013,
le duo intègre le collectif d’artistes «Le club
des sous l’eau» autour de l’oeuvre de Jean
Painlevé et intervient dans plusieurs musées
(Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo).
En parallèle David Lemoîne mène un travail
de recherche sur la voix au travers d’ateliers
avec des public en marge (autistes, prisonniers, sdf). Avec «atelier méditerranée»,
musique expérimentale pour autistes,
il participe actuellement à la construction
d’une fédération des initiatives faisant le
pont entre troubles mentaux et expérimentations musicales.
Born in 1978 in Bordeaux, France. Singer
from the group “Cheveu”, created in 2003
with Olivier Demeaux and Etienne Nicolas,
a French band on the rock and experimental scene. The trio released his first album
in the United States, and has been touring
in France and Europe with bands such as
the Black Lips or Tyvek . Cheveu has just
released his third album Bum, arranged by
the Israeli composer Maya Dunietz, with the
Parisian label Born Bad.
In 2009 David Lemoîne created the experimental duo Noyade with Erik Minkkinen
(Sister Iodine, Le Placard Festival). In 2013,
the duo joined the artist collective “Le club
des sous l’eau” around the work of Jean
Painlevé and is involved in several museums
(Pompidou Centre , Palais de Tokyo).
He has been conducting in parallel a research
work on the voice through workshops with
public margin (autism, prisoners, homeless).
With “Mediterranean workshop” experimental music for autism, he is currently
involved in building a federation initiative
bridging the gap between mental and
musical experiments.
