The Situation is…
• Students can enjoy activities or games in
English class, but…
• They can’t keep their concentration on
learning. They get bored soon.
• Sometimes they don’t listen to teachers’
explanations or instructions.
Two ideas…
• How to introduce new sentences effectively
and attractively.
• To check students’ understanding.
(All teachers at my school are trying to do it)
1 How to introduce new sentences
• Introduce only in English.
• With using pictures of famous people or
people who are familiar to students.
• Through interaction with students.
• With using sentences or phrases which they
have already learned.
• With making it funny
or surprising.
Like this…
“Who are they?”
Who is she?
She is Ms. Kugimoto.
What does she teach you?
She teaches us art.
What does she give you?
She gives us a smile.
She is a teacher now,
but she had another dream…..

あなたは将来、何になりたいですか？
I want to be a flight attendant.
私はフライトアテンダントになりたいの。
I want to go to many countries.
私はたくさんの国に行きたいの。

I want to be a baker.
I want to eat a lot of bread.

I want to be famous!

2 To check students’ understanding
• Sometimes (always?) students don’t really
understand what we taught or our instructions.
• Students explain or teach what they’ve learned
or what the teacher said in pairs.
• They can use their own words and Japanese.
• If needed, I will explain or give them
instructions again.
Today’s Point

「to不定詞」
今日の「to不定詞」は、「～すること」という
意味を表します。
