A20 Vehicle Heater
The A20 Vehicle Heater is a dual-output unit with
a selectable heat level between 60,000 BTU and
30,000 BTU (17.58 kW and 8.79 kW). The high/
low switch on the optional remote control box or
vehicle master panel controls the heat output. The
system has a multi-fuel compatibility including
DF1, DF2, DFA, and JP8. Combustion air intake can
be taken from outside the heated compartment,
and the exhaust gases are expelled outside the
heated area completely isolating ventilation air
from combustion gases.
The primary application for the A20 heater
is providing clean, warm air for the crew
compartments of armored vehicles; however, other
applications include heating the enclosed cargo
area of the 5-ton FMTV. HDT also manufactures
a portable version of the A20 that includes an
extension cord and NATO slave connector for the
28 vdc power supply. The 38 lb. (17.24 kg) weight
and compact 27 inch (68.58 cm) length make the
portable version easy to handle.
The heater is user-friendly with self-diagnostics
and remote fault signaling. The A20 design
and operating system minimize downtime and
maintenance.
The A20 Heater was developed for the United
States Army Tank-Automotive Armaments
Command (TACOM) to meet rugged military
requirements with improved safety, performance,
and value.
Key features:
• Microprocessor controlled
• Qualified to MIL-PRF-62550
• Advanced multi-fuel combustion
• Fully automatic–no adjustments required
• Continuous safety monitoring
• CBRN compatible
• Operates down to -60°F (-51.1°C)
• Built in diagnostics
• Operates against high static pressure
