Hydropower & Dams
in South Asia 2014
KEY TO PROJECTS SHOWN ON THE MAP
The projects shown on the Map are the largest hydro plants, pumped-storage plants and dams in South Asia.
They include schemes in operation, under construction and planned (including under study or identified project sites).
As a complement to the Map, basic data about the projects are given here.
The help of those organizations that provided data and project locations is gratefully acknowledged: in particular, ICOLD
(and its national committees and World Register of Dams), government water and energy ministries, consultants,
power companies and utilities, and other developers.
Published to commemorate ASIA 2104: the Fifth International Conference on
Water Resources and Hydropower Development in Asia
Colombo, Sri Lanka ~11 to 13 March 2014

Hydropower & Dams in South Asia 2014
This table provides basic information about projects that meet at least one of the following criteria for inclusion on the Map: dam at least 60 m high
(or 100 m high in India, or 35 m high in Sri Lanka); or hydro plant at least 100 MW capacity (or 30 MW in Sri Lanka).
It was not possible to locate every project, in particular projects at an early stage of planning: an asterisk in the lefthand column indicates these.
Normal type indicates schemes in operation; bold type indicates schemes under construction; and bold-italic type indicates projects that are at any
stage of planning (including under study or identified potential sites).
Please send any additional information or corrections to the data in this table by email to: [email protected]
