Topics
• 1 Chronicles is a
condensed Hebrew
history--from Adam to
Solomon.
• Primarily, a supplement to
2 Samuel.
• Chief topic is King David’s
reign.
– 17:19,20
“O LORD, for Your servant's
sake, and according to Your
own heart, You have done all
this greatness, in making
known all these great things.
O LORD, there is none like
You, nor is there any God
besides You, according to all
that we have heard with our
ears.”
Topics
• 1 Chronicles begins
with the royal line of
David and traces his
righteous reign.
• God’s Sovereignty
• Worshipping and
obediently serving Him
– 3:1-3
“Now these were the sons of
David who were born to him in
Hebron: The firstborn was
Amnon, by Ahinoam the
Jezreelitess; the second,
Daniel, by Abigail the
Carmelitess; the third,
Absalom the son of Maacah,
the daughter of Talmai, king of
Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah
the son of Haggith…”
Message
• The message of 1
Chronicles is that all
men should learn from
the history and
examples recorded.
• Glory is due Him, and
we worship His high
and Holy name!
– 13:10,11
“Then the anger of the LORD
was aroused against Uzza,
and He struck him because
he put his hand to the ark;
and he died there before
God. And David became
angry because of the
LORD'S outbreak against
Uzza; therefore that place is
called Perez Uzza to this
day.”
Purpose
• Like the books of Samuel and Kings, which they
supplement, I and 2 Chronicles were originally ONE
book.

conduct and actions of God’s people.

Chronicles gives insight into her spiritual and
religious history.
• David’s dynasty in Judah

tribal territories could be restored after the

reign. Much information about the temple
and various wars.
Distinctive Features
• Supplements the four previous books (1 and 2 Samuel,
1 and 2 Kings). Contains more info on the royal tribe-Judah.
• Records many of the same events, but from a different
vantage point
