Part 1 – Completion of Major

Your major advisor is your primary advisor for
major courses, graduation requirements, etc.

Must maintain a 2.5 overall GPA in your major area
(usually differs from what your major college
requires)
Part 2 – Completion of Teaching Minor

See COE website for listing of teaching minor courses and
departmental contact names

HST teaching minors must be approved by advisor in that
department. New version pending, see advisor.

TESOL teaching minor requires the completion of the TESOL Minor
Agreement Form

Non-conforming teaching minors must be approved by that
department, with approval by form, email or posted in ESAF

Must maintain a 2.5 overall GPA in teaching minor area

No course credits counted in a teaching minor can be double
counted toward the credit requirement of the teaching major, or
vise versa

Students who will intern FS14 or later will likely be held to
additional requirements to meet MDE standards.

Effective immediately, all students seeking initial teacher certification
must prove that they are certified in:
◦ Adult CPR
◦ Child CPR
◦ First Aid

MDE - Approved Providers of Courses for First Aid and CPR

First Aid certification is valid for 3 years

CPR certification is valid for 1 year

Must be current at time of certification. Earliest to take them is late
August before internship begins.
