Goals and Wishes.
 What is the difference between a vision and
a wish?
 A wish or a dream is a sequence of images, emotions, smells and sounds in
your mind.
 A vision is a concrete version of your dream; nothing will happen by itself

Three Types of Goals:
long-range
 I will have a 3.0 grade point average by the end of the
year.
mid-range
 I will have an “A” in my science elective class.
short-range
 I will get an “A” on my AVID binder check.
SMART Goals
 Specific
 The goal should identify a specific action or event that will




take place.
Measurable
 The goal and its benefits should be quantifiable.
Achievable
 The goal should be attainable given available resources.
Realistic
 The goal should require you to stretch some, but allow the
likelihood of success.
Timely
 The goal should state the time period in which it will be
accomplished.
My Goals
 Individually write down two to five goals for each type
of goal category. Always write the goal in present tense.
 Long-Range
 Mid-Range
 Short-Range
 Pair-share your lists of goals.
 Share with the class
Your Task
 From your list of goals, you will create a
collage with photos, drawings, articles,
words that you like to your poster that
inspires you to reach your goals
 Use pictures from personal photos,
magazines , words, trinkets, etc…
 Due: Monday January 12

After you completed your Vision Board:
 You will write a 5 paragraphs essay on your goal.
 How does your poster display your goal.
 What must you do to reach your goal.




Short term and mid term goals.
What is your time table for reaching your goal.
What obstacles do you anticipate when trying to reach your goal.
How are you going to conquer your obstacles?
 How will you celebrate?
 You will be graded on Voice, Ideas, and Sentence
Fluency (always conventions).
 Present your Vision to the class.
Brainstorming
 Make a circle in the middle of a piece of paper
 For 3-5 minutes, write your personal goals in the circle, using
one or two word
 Make branches off the center circle with the headings:
 Friends
 School
 Sports
 Family
 Highlight a word in the center circle and place it under one
of the branches, continue until all words are highlighted.
 Add more ideas to heading that have 2 or fewer goals.
