Alcohol Use and Society
Other Risks of Alcohol Use
You know now that alcohol damages body and mind
But it also hurts decision making, school work, and
relationships
Mental health, emotional health, and social health are
all affected
Teens who use alcohol are more likely to get bad
grades and be absent/late for school.
Alcohol Use Affects Decisions
Ever make a bad decision??
When your not in the right state of mind decisions are made quickly and
usually it is a bad choice
This is what happens when people are drinking alcohol
A person under the influence might take risks that he or she would not
normally take
Examples would be:
Committing a crime
Use other drugs
May engage in sexual activity
Leads to an unwanted pregnancy or STD
There are programs such as SADD to help with this
Teaches good decision making skills
Driving Drunk
The most dangerous part of alcohol
Never ride with a person who has been drinking
Loss of coordination, concentration, and visual
awareness makes their abilities to drive diminish
A drunk driver believes their abilities are not
affected and convinces themselves of this.
It could end with a car accident injuring innocent
people
Alcohol Use Affects Relationships
Teens who use alcohol loose friends
Teens lose interest in activities they used to like such
as sports, movies, concerts
Teens will lie to their friends and parents to cover up
the alcohol abuse
Because they push away the people who care about
them in their lives, people who abuse alcohol may
become very lonely
Alcohol Use and Violence
Mood swings are very common
This leads to violence.
A physical force resulting in injury or abuse
Some people believe they are stronger then they
really are
People become mouthy and a fight will break out
People who have a history of violence can become
very dangerous.
