Why did the fire spread so quickly?
Most of the houses in London were made of
wood, and had straw scattered on the floor,
so they burned very easily.
Houses were built very close together,
so the fire spread quickly from house
to house.
There was no proper fire service, and
the fire was too large for people to put
it out using buckets of water.
