Please complete two of the three items below for the next “sharing session.” Complete as much as you can based upon your knowledge or experience as your building’s administrator. A school yearbook may help put a face to the person so you may share with your MENTOR.”

I.

“KNOW THY ENEMY-KNOW THY FRIEND!”

Can you identify the following people in your building?

a.

Brahmins: those people who have elevated positions in your faculty as perceived by the staff – highly respected, revered, and listened to by all constituents (students, faculty, parents, and community). b.

Wizards: those people who can seemingly make anything happen (creative and always on the cutting edge but may be problematic because of their lack of attention to detail. These are the Blue Sky folk).

II.

c.

d.

e.

Nay Sayers: those people who stand in the shadows and quietly disdain new initiatives or “snipe” at others, BUT have some level of influence on the staff. Power Brokers: those people who are able to “speak” for the masses (faculty) and carry considerable influence and can sway the group. Corporals with Clout: those non-certified people who are influential and have access to power in or outside your building.

Who are you favorite “aunts and uncles” either in your building, district, or central office whose guidance you seek out, whose “ear” you may have, or who you admire? III.

Consider a SOCIAL AUTOPSY identifying the normative beliefs, value systems, and rituals shared by the “Family” members in your building.
