Child car safety seats should be placed in
back seat.
If not back seat, place in front, but move
front seat far away from dashboard
Children 12 and under should ride in the
back seat of a vehicle
Never place a rear-facing infant safety seat in the
front seat of a vehicle that has a passenger airbag.

An infant seat should not face forward.

than 80 lbs must be buckled into an
approved car or booster seat.
Children under 8 but over 80lbs
Must be in a rear seat but use a
Seat belt at all times

 Airbags save lives!!!!!!
-Almost
all cars have them now
-Combined
with seatbelts, they greatly reduce
the risk of death from auto accidents

Check these before driving:
Reverse lights
Brakes – You should be able to stop within 25feet
at 20 mph. Do not pump Anti-Lock Brakes!!
Brake Lights
Headlights
The Horn
Taillights
Tires
Turn Signals
The Windshield

Check behind and in front of car

clear
Adjust seat to your size
Adjust mirrors to reduce blind spots
Fasten seatbelts
Make sure car is in park, or neutral gear`

Keep good posture
95% of all information necessary for safe
driving is visual information
Check blindspots and for less conspicuous
vehicles such as bicycles or motorcycles


Keep car in center of lane
Keep to right of a two-lane road with
oncoming traffic in the other lane
When driving in curve,
your vehicle tends to go STRAIGHT.




Keep proper grip on wheel and turn
accordingly
Hands should be at 9 and 3 o’clock.

There is no formula, but is based on several
factors:

Individual reaction time
Weather and road conditions
Vehicle weight
Brake conditions
Condition and type of tires
Roadway conditions
Speed

Never Drink…







Examples from chart on page 24:
If you are traveling at 30 mph
It will take you 33 feet before you can react
To come to a complete stop will be another
55 feet.
So, it will be a total of 88 feet minimum to come to
a complete stop if you are going at 30 MPH
When driving at 60mph, it will take you 300 feet to
come to a complete stop.!!!!!!
5 K Difference



Do not violently push or slam on brake!!
(cause vehicle to jerk and wears out brakes
and tires prematurely)
Apply Gentle pressure to the brake and
always use RIGHT foot for the brake
With Anti-Lock-Brakes, do not pump the
brake
(It could cause you go to out of control)


Signal 100 feet before a turn
Know correct hand signals!
Left arm straight out = left turn
Left arm pointed up = right turn
Left arm pointed down = STOP
(Another signal to use is the horn when passing,
but not in a residential or business district)


Steering the wheel to the right moves the car
to the right
Steering the wheel to the left moves the car
to the left
Place RIGHT hand and arm behind passenger
seat when turning!!


When driving in reverse, front of car swings in
opposite direction!!
Do not depend on mirrors alone!!
