How the ship sank
Everyone was on their way to New York City, where most
people were heading to. They had to go through the Atlantic.
There was a HUGE iceberg coming closer and closer like a
snake sneaking up on his prey. But, the boat went swiftly by the
iceberg and was still totally safe. Or so they thought, when
sailing that close to the iceberg it tore holes in the metal on the
bottom side of the boat. The holes were pretty big, so a lot of
water was coming in the boat. The alarms started going off,
screaming for an emergency. But, no one knew what was
happening. By the time they figured out what was happening
they had less and less time left.
Facts about the Titanic
● There were 31 rooms
● There was a total of 2,208 people on the boat.
But, when the ship sank there were only twenty
lifeboats that had room for 1,178 people. But sadly
only 712 people survived
● The iceberg that made the Titanic sink, it was
pretty big. It was 50-100 feet high and 200-400
feet long.
Facts about the Titanic #2
● Originally, a lifeboat drill was scheduled to take place on board the
Titanic on April 14, 1912 - the day the Titanic hit the iceberg. However,
for an unknown reason, Captain Smith canceled the drill. People
believe that if the drill had happened, not that many people would’ve
been killed.
● The Titanic seemed to have everything on board, including its own
newspaper. The Atlantic Daily Bulletin was printed every day on board
the Titanic. The newspaper included news, advertisements, stock
prices, horse-racing results, society gossip, and the day's menu.
● Not only were there not enough lifeboats to save everyone on board,
most of the lifeboats that were launched off the Titanic were not filled
to capacity.
Quotes from survivors
“I was a rust repairer. I was a rust repairer and a fulltime survivor. I survived all the major earthquakes, the
titanic, and several air crashes.” -Keith Moon
“I thought it would be a safe steamship and I
heard it would not sink”
-Maragaret Devaney
