And for Parents: What’s In It For Me? Scouting can be free!

Offer your own incentives to motivate the Scouts Participate in Take Order, Show & Sell and Online Ordering Celebrate success of all scouts and the Unit!

The Importance of Goal-Setting

Why are goals important?

• Key to success – in scouting and in life • Give us clear direction • Drive us forward • Make us accountable – to ourselves and others In scouting: • Advance in rank • Complete service projects • Earn belt loops • Learn skills

The Importance of Goal-Setting

And in popcorn: • Scouts who set goals: Average sale of $626 Scouts with no goal: Average sale of $304 • Units that set sales goals sell twice as much as units without goals • Only 44% of parents said their sons set sales goals Encourage goals!

• Set and publicize the Unit Goal • Help scouts set individual goals (dollars/prizes, # customers, # hours, # houses/asks)

Scout Training & Sales Incentives

Review sales methods, instructions and techniques • Always wear your Class A Uniform.

• Always sell with an adult and/or with a group.

• Never enter anyone’s home.

• Do not sell after dark.

• Always stay on the sidewalks and driveways.

• Collect money when taking orders.

• Never carry large amounts of cash.

Let the scouts share tips and best practices Train parents, too!

• It’s about the scouts: support them to be successful • Order forms at work: best with a scout!

• Online selling

Scout Training & Sales Incentives

Prize Program • Very popular last year • Special prize for Scouts selling $600 or more: Air Launched Sky Rocket, which comes with five rockets, two of which light up for playing with at night!

Fill It Up / Full Sheet Bonus: • All Scouts who fill the Popcorn Order form (30 orders) will receive $10 in Scout Bucks!

College Scholarship for $2,500 Sellers

Wawa Show & Sells

Wawa schedules Show & Sells over ONE SINGLE Weekend.

• They have specific requirements, which we will disseminate.

• You may not contact your local Wawa to schedule a Show & Sell independently.

Show & Sell Orders & Returns

• • Initial Orders: Units with a prior sales history may order 10% over last year’s actual Show and Sell product sales. Units with no prior sales history may order based on $100 of product per registered Scout selling.

Additional products will be available for sale in the event the unit runs short or out of product.

Units may return Show and Sell popcorn prior to November 2 to the Council • • Service Center for redistribution to other units.

Chocolate Products are not returnable.

All returns to the office must be scheduled in advance. The Bucks County Council reserves the right to adjust unit orders as needed.

Best Practices

Tips and training are available at boyscoutpopcornsale.blogspot.com

Best Practices: Take Order Sales

• • • • • • • • • • • Collect money up front so you can deliver if people aren’t home.

• Coordinate scouts in neighborhoods and among units.

• Reassign neighborhoods to scouts if their neighborhoods aren’t good for selling.

Best Practices: Show & Sells

• • • • • • • • • Stick to 2 scouts per shift. You don’t make much more money with • more scouts and so they each receive less credit for the time.

• Leave No Trace: leave it better than you found it • You can split Cheese Lovers and Sweet & Savory Collections When scheduling, ask the manager if any other scout groups are scheduled and if they are, check with that troop/pack to make sure you are not double-booked.

Best Practices: Online Sales

• • • • • • • • • Send your own email using the link on Trails End, instead of their template. It is more personal that way.

• Email a thank you note right after someone makes a purchase. (Last year, trail’s End didn’t notify scouts of purchases, so you have to check the site regularly.)
