Vocabulary • Printmaking • Brayer • Printing plate • Print What you will need: • Picture of your mission • 1 Cardboard square for printing plate • 1 Packet of shapes • Scissors • Quik Dry Tacky Glue • 3 papers with your name on the back of each This is Mission San Luis Rey Look carefully at your mission Step 1: The Basic Shapes Use your marker and draw on the plastic to create the basic geometric shapes that you see in your mission. Step 2: Find shapes you need Take the shapes from your envelope. Select the shapes that you need to create your mission. You may need to cut them into other geometric shapes. Step 3: Arrange Shapes Arrange the shapes to create your mission. You must do this in reverse. The printing block and the Print Step 4: Cut shapes You may need to recut some of the shapes to form the roof line or the shape of the building. Cut out the doors and windows Have your teacher check your design before gluing it down! Step 5: Glue shapes to block Glue shapes down to cardboard. Glue strips around the edges to create a frame around the mission. Step 6: Create a print Bring your printing plate to the color center of your choice and wait your turn. Step 8: Ink your printing plate Spread ink on the inking pad or pan so that you can distribute it evenly on the brayer. Step 9: Ink your printing plate Place your plate on a piece of newspaper. Ink the printing plate, going in different directions and returning to get more ink on the brayer so that the plate is thoroughly and evenly inked. Step 10: Make a paper print Carry your inked plate back to your desk and place a paper on top of it. Rub the raised areas Step 11: Pull the print Pull print off and repeat this process. Step 12: Make several prints Use different colored papers Check list: When you finish you are going to complete this check list.
