OFSTED REPORT FEB 2013 - KS2 Attainment
‘Standards in Key Stage 2 are uneven. Pupils’ attainment in English
improved last year to be above other schools nationally, although
attainment in mathematics remained at a similar level to other schools.’
This statement is INCORRECT. What is the true picture for our school?

Quality of teaching
Headteacher / Phase Leader observations (Spring 13):
• 13 lessons observed of which…
• 9 were ‘good’
• 4 were ‘outstanding’
• The Headteacher’s observation judgements
were validated by the Lead Inspector, but the
school’s evidence base was not used.
Quality of teaching
The strongest teaching observed across school:
• Pace
• High expectations
• Challenge for all
• High levels of differentiation
• Literacy skills across the curriculum
• Positive relationships by all
• Positive behaviour
• Marking and feedback
Quality of teaching
What the report says…
• There is too much variability across school
• Work is not at the right level for pupils
• Teachers do not check regularly on learning
• Marking policy is clear but needed for maths
• Opportunities to apply skills are limited
• Occasions where work for SEN pupils is too
difficult
We do not agree with this judgement!

•Middle Leaders are empowered and enabled
•The change in culture in school can clearly be seen
•Pupils are starting to make better progress
•High expectations for everyone comes from the top
•Clear direction and this is right for the school
Leadership and management
What the report says…
•Teaching and pupil achievement have not improved
enough
•Assessment information is not always accurate
•The headteacher has focused on developing
relationships in school and the community
•Limited maths skills in Key Stage 2
Leadership and management
What the report says…
•Governors believe progress to be more rapid than it
is because data is not always accurate
•Actions taken have not ensured that teaching and
achievement are good
•Pupils doing less well do not always receive extra
help
We totally disagree with the report!
