In December, 1906, Guglielmo’s radio was
the first radio to be broadcasted on the air.
About Guglielmo Marconi’s Life
• Guglielmo Marconi was born at Bologna, Italy,

on April 25, 1874.
Second son of Giuseppe Marconi, an Italian
country gentleman. He was educated privately
at Bologna, Florence and Leghorn.
Even as a boy, he took a keen interest in
physical and electrical science, and studied the
works of Maxwell, Hertz, Righi, Lodge, and
others.
In 1895, he began laboratory experiments at his
father's country estate at Pontecchio where he
succeeded in sending wireless signals over a
distance of one and a half miles.

Air?
• On December 12, 1901, Guglielmo
Marconi the Italian inventor and electrical
engineer sent the first radio signals across
the Atlantic from Cornwall to
Newfoundland, a distance of over 2,000
miles. Using basic methods, he proved to
the world the long distance power, speed,
and strength of radio waves.
